Trying to clean my registry

I used a free one I downloaded from one the american PC magazines once, but can't remember which one. Was probably something lie PCMag....sorry can't be more helpful.

OK when I get home tonight I'll try it.

There are an incredible amount of these programs that say they are free or free to try. But when you do use them and then try to get them to clean the registry they ask for you to pay...

Jeez I thought the web was about getting stuff for nowt:D

If you

use the 'run' command accessed via the start button then type 'regedit' you can edit the registry manually. BE CAREFUL though, if you make a girls front bottom of it your 'puter' may not boot up!

Yeh I knew that too. But looking at the registry and editing it as you say is a no no in my books. I'd rather let a decent program do it for me. Nothings really wrong with my puter, just seems a bit slower. And unlike Fanum I don't want to reinstall it every six months. Though I will if needed...

slow running

Get a decent spyware checker as well in that case.

Got Spybot - No Problem
Got Adaware - No Problem
Got Zonealarm - No Problem
Got Norton Anti Virus - No Problem

Just fancy cleaning up the registry, cheers Hops....

I think Cookie and Motomartin have supplied what I need...

dodgy types

ps. bet reg cleaner won't make much difference to pc speed. pc mags bang on about such stuff, reg cleaners, defrag, housekeeping etc. never worked for me :(

reinstall, configure, ghost image. restore in 10 mins....

....unless your image is :GS:GS:GS:GSed. that's why i'm now using ghost not that bastard :GS:GS:GS:GSing shite drive image 7 mess

variable, but probably about 5/6GB using default compression settings.

ps. you need a seperate partition to back up to as well. ghost can do that as well.
all personal stuff, my docs etc. should go on second partition too so it's only system files on "C". better if summat goes wrong.

second hard drive even better in case drive 1 physicallypacks up.

both my pc's have 2 drives with many partitions.
