Folks,

I work as a TV reporter with BBC Northern Ireland.

Because of my interest in bikes, once a year I get a welcome reprieve from the daily grind of the newsroom and am commissioned to do a series of bike-related pieces in the guise of 'BBC Newsline's biking reporter'.

These run out in the week leading up to the North West 200.

Previous pieces have included a profile of 'flying doctors' Fred McSorley and John Hynds, a piece about the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club ahead of the NW200 classic parade, a piece about the police Bikesafe campaign which runs during raceweek, an explanation of a new tourist trail in Armoy based on the area's road racing heritage, a package where I travelled with some overseas visitors as they made their way to the event, a profile of Baja 1000 competitor Davy Patterson (the tenuous link being that he'd be among the crowd at the North West), a piece about a group riding from Malin Head to Mizen Head to raise funds for the MCUI medical team (handing over the cheque at a North West practice night) etc etc.

I'm just starting to plan for this year's series and am on the hunt for any possible features.

While a link to the North West is always an advantage, it isn't absolutely essential (just being about bikes is enough to justify a piece its place really). It's also preferable if it's something I can take part in - although it's always possible to fulfil the 'our biking reporter' criteria simply by having me ride to the story on my bike, complete with camera, tripod etc stowed away in the Ventura bag.

So, if you know of any interesting events, fascinating bike-related stories, characters worth a profile piece etc (and if you wouldn't object TOO much to sharing them with a KTM-riding type), then please let me know.

I'll check in with the site here every so often or you can email me directly at [email protected].

Best Regards
Gordon

Welcome to the site, Gordon. If you subscribe you'll find a KTM section buried somewhere in the depths :thumb2. Maybe we'll meet in McDonalds this year again :thumb

Aha, Blobbs, I remember you well. Good to hear from you. You still have the GS then?

Welcome Gordon

Lots of budding film stars attending from all over the UK & Ireland

Even some nobility attending from Oonyackistan:oonyack

Hmmm.... How to sell that to the production desk as a valid news item, and not just a jolly for yours truly, might take a little working out Phil. Does sound like it would be mighty craic mind you.

Give yer maun The Celt (Joe) a shout... he fills the above criteria in shovel loads...

You could do a piece on Civil too...( a watchdog type expose :aidan)

Italy eh? I'm sure that was a fantastic trip. Which part? I'm asking because I'm planning a trip there in 2010 for a family wedding. The plan is that my wife, daughter and mother-in-law will fly out and I'll take the bike and meet up with them for the wedding, then meander my way home via the best biking roads I can find.

Didn't get too far this year - hard to find the time with a one-year-old in the house. I did manage to get to the Highlands a couple of times (once with the snow thick on the ground which was good craic).

I'd been hoping to get to the Cologne show in October and combine it with a trip to 'the Ring', but I decided against it at the last minute - it was all starting to get just too pricey. I've been kicking myself since and think I'll definitely aim to do that next (sorry, later this...) year.

Stayed near Bolzano in a wee village called Trodena. Did the Stelvio Pass - amazing - and Lake Garda and a few of the Dolomites. Travelled through Holland, Germany and Austria - some great roads. Would like to do it again in the (near) future :thumb

Why not do a feature on the men who buy full blown adventure bikes and only ride "round the block"

You know the ones, they are easily spotted.

Natural Habitat: Hursts
When: Generally Saturday morning although have been known to go mid week
Natural Dress:Full Gortex suits
Language:Usually Sh**e
Looks:Can have silly facial hair(no offence Gordy:augie) and ever expanding waistline (no offence to me on that one:D)

You should have no trouble finding volunteers although finding anyone interesting enough could be tricky:D:D

Right,im off to polish the Pan;)

I suppose its probably not for seasoned bikers but I havn't seen much about the new off road bike test that started on December 8th in NI.

Perhaps from the perspective off a pupil preparing for it then doing the test at a DVA centre. It could cover the Instructional aspect and then the Examiner aspect.

Just a thought as it is key to getting the practical test. Then onwards and upwards.

Although it may have been covered on TV recently but I havn't seen anything on it.
