Twin Spark model vs Older model?

Hi guys,
Is there any benefit to having a newer twin spark model say an 06 plate F650GS compared an older 02 plate.
Is there any noticable difference in performance?

The only real change was the extra plug, it should give cleaner combustion, lower emissions, feel a little smoother and improve mpg but the changes will be minimal in real world usage.

Would an aftermarket single side exhaust and fittings from a 99 - 04 GS fit a 97 twin spark model? Is there a difference re silencers between the older and newer model??
