With thanks to Vern of this parish for his patience and and very prompt help with the shaped and cut aluminium, my plate to mount two additional sockets is all finished. I am pleased with the result.

I had considered having it made out of black acrylic. I'm now glad that I did I didn't. The silver of the aluminium goes quite well with the other gaps in the frame. I also think having it behind the frame tubes works OK, too.

What on earth is that second wire doing going down the side of the plug, most unusual surely ? :nenau

Contact Vern.

Mine was just a one off, following an appeal on the site for someone to cut some aluminium for me.

This was mkII. I have my cardboard template, which I am more than happy to return to Vern if it helps him. It is very slightly (a few mm) too deep on the bottom edge. I had thought about asking Vern to take a little off but I had presumed on hid goodwill long enough.

Hints and tips.

(1) Take care where you locate the sockets. It is possible to foul the suspension or, more likely, have the socket cables rub.

(2) You do not need so many holes for cable ties. Had I gone for mk III I would probably have got rid of some.

(3) Socket sizes vary. Where mine are are on the plate may not suit everyone.

Ho ho... It's not a twist, it's an artistic curve.

That cable tie was a pig. It is very narrow between the plate and the rest of the bike. I also wanted to restrain the socket cables. Skinned my knuckles.

An optical illusion. It's a twist in the cable for the light.

Nice job Dude, it looks really good......:thumb2
Are you going to sheet in the righthand side also?

Timpo.

One is power the other is BikeStart for jumping it.

In one.

The larger socket is a jump starter. Odd as it seems for a 1200 I have jump started two other bikes and it's only a matter of time before I will need to be kick-started myself. It's a faff taking the seat off. Now I don't have to.

The smaller one is a fused 10amp supply. I can use it to power my compressor (which draws more than 5amp on start, so tripping the cambus). I can also use it to power anything else that draws over 5amps (a larger heated suit, for instance). I will also use it instead of the usual Optimate input, which often corrodes.

Thanks.

I thought about that originally but no.

(a) Most 'power things' happen on the nearside already. Simply I guess because we get on from the left and operate the throttle with the right?

(b) The shape of the triangle of frame is different on the offside, partly taken up by the pre-load knob for the suspension. It can be done, it was simply easier on the nearside.

Can you post up the menu of the hardware you have used:-

Plug/socket kits, Jumpcrocs, etc, and where you obtained them. It may be of use to many others who now wish to do this mod.

All from Nippy N. Thought others do them, too.
