Anyone got an email address for a 'technical department' or even customer service department at BMW UK? It's re a K1200S so of no interest here...

And, slightly unusual this one.

In terms of aftermarket and original starter motors for the ST, anyone have any idea which one weighs the least?

You could try this...
mailto:[email protected]

Even if all they did for me was worm their way out of the enquiry I made....
However, your bike is newer than mine ( r1150gs,year 2000)

As for the ST, I think people seem to prefer the Bosch over the Valeo.
That may start a storm though....
Imho, I reckon a new one is the best one.
Good luck.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

I have never managed to kick start either of the two bikes I had with the lever thing.
Took it off my current bike

Now how heavey is the kick start lever :D

I can't believe Ritchie's finest won't start with the merest hint of a kick!

I have fitted A $90- Valeo knock of from Caltric on eBAY and a $180- improved Valeo from Euromotoelectrics.

Both have worked perfectly so far, the $90- knock off has done 60,000 km on my 1000 g/s

Cheers mate. It was the comparative sizes I was particularly interested in - either I have to lose weight or the bike does and will power being what it is...

I'm seriously looking at fitting a kickstart - that way I can have a smaller battery too!

Twice in 25 years

If you haven't already, spend some time trying to kick one into life - I love my starter motor :D

Kick starting....

I had a starter pedal fitted on a 600/7 that I ran back in the late 80's and that did start OK as I recall
on the odd time that I needed to resort to it... cold morning/droopy battery, etc.

However.... the 800 motor may well need a bit more grunt to fire it up...?
Do you live on a hill by the way John..?? :D
