Hi Guys (& Gals)

This may sound like an odd request... i'm about to head off for my first real "mini-adventure" down to the South of France, two-up, camping & on my 12GS....

I've seen lots of pics of bikes packed up for camping, but they all tend to be rider only configurations...

I'd appreciate a few pics/ideas for packing the 12GS in a two-up camping configuration.... anyone?

Cheers... look forward to some insight and ideas.....

-Stu.

Hi Stu,

Not much in the way of insight I'm afraid... But this is my mate and his lovely assistant with his GS set up in camping mode, He usually has the top box on there as well, so this is travelling light by his standards... ;)

two up

All my touring is done two up. Having recently bought a 1200GS we have already done 10 days camping in amongst 2500 miles. 100GS and G/S prior.
The bike had a top box (already sold it a Givi Maxi 52) which made front end light at crawl speeds but ok when on the move. The bike came with OE boxes which are also being binned as utilizing Metal Mule boxes (which I already had) 38litre each. Up front a BMW tank bag and Aerostitch tank panniers (10 litre each)allow excellent weight disribution. We are now utilizing a waterproof bag arrangement on the rear carrier to keep weight lower down and also provide a backrest. This set up gives a massive 160 litres of storage space.
We use a Mountain Hardware hammerhead 3 tent which is divided up so , pegs and outer go in tank panniers, poles in rear bag. Double airbed (heavy) in bottom of one pannier. 2 down sleeping bags with down pillows in compression sacs in rear carrier bag.
Gas lamp in pannier,
gas stove (either Karrimor 'Go' or MSR dragonfly in pannier. MSR mountain kettle with 2 insulated titanium mugs inside, 2 MSr bowls, Banks fry bake pan, pot grippers etc all in own bag in pannier.
Staples bag with tea bags, coffee, spices and the like in pannier.
Mountain ripstop tarp in tank bag along with Ipod, battery charger, 12v pump spare gas canisters gloves and the like.
Clothes go in panniers and also rear bag. Extra waterproofs, spare gloves in rear rack bag.
We then have a small rucksack bag which folds to nothing so we can pick up food, wine etc for the camping as we go.
No pic' of this set up sorry.
This works well for us. I always reccomend buying good quality gear. I do a lot of multi day tripping both backpacking and wilderness canoeing and sea kayaking. Gear and how you pack it is critical. Make a list of everything you take, both of you should have a certain amount of space and grils always need extra girly things :D
When you come back note everything you didnt use and gradually hone the kit you take down.
Oh and we feel an intercom is vital. Autocom pro 7 is what we use.

Here's us loaded up on our way to Spain, two-up and camping. Took too much stuff. There's nothing in the red roll though, just some foam sleeping mats.
