Just changed the origonal fitement Anakees for Tourances front and rear and after a couple of hundered miles I notice a vibration - very strong under braking!

The tyres seem pretty quiet unlike the Anakees which got very loud with more miles (I changed them at 5,000 miles).

The new tyres were fitted by BMW of Milwakee and they seem to be balanced OK. I have done 1,000 on them and the vibration is very pronounced. The bars have also developed a tendency to shake / slap at lower speeds (less than 30mph)

Anyone else notice a vibration from these well rated tyres?

make sure you are running the right pressures 36psi (2.5 bar) front and 42 psi (2.9 bar) rear.

If this doesn't cure it, take them back for a re-balance

Tourance have a habit of doing that, I had one set completely replaced here in the UK for free as they where shaking badly. If you do some checking on this forum you will find that it is a known problem. Tourances I now avoid and use Anakees.

I moved back from Boston a few months ago and only used Anakees and TKCs when there, my first set of Tourances from the factory were the same as you describe when collecting my bike from Max's in NH I asked after the 600 mile service to have the changed.

Hope it helps, Nick

P.S

How was the rally in Cheese land?

I assume you went and got new hoops on the way home?

Nick

The rally was OK - long drive on very straight and flat roads - which is why I needed the new tyres. The rally was better last year here in Vermont.....

Definately something wrong with the tyre - I 'll take it to Max in NY and let them have a look.

Took it back to the dealer again - symptons now much worse. New wheel and discs fitted = New bike! I had convinced myself that I was imagining it.........but no!

So what was wrong - tyre ? wheel ? balance weights fell off ? bearings ? brakes ?
The suspension is killing me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phil

Sorry Phil (sounds like you need to get your suspension looked at!) The wheel was 'not round' (it wasn't round the first time they looked either!) and it seems that both discs were warped.

When they first looked at the bike they said it was within tollerence. Over the next couple of thousand miles the vibration got worse and real horrible when on the brakes............I had changed to Metz Tourance (had Mich Anakees) tires in between and they seemed to make it worse.

Just been out again - I can not believe the difference - even holding a tight line on a tight continous radius curve is now fluid - previously I had to keep correcting the bike.
