Nice Tourance's front and rear from new. Now done 4500 miles and it looks like the front is wearing more than the rear. Is this normal:confused:

Wearing how and where :nenau I find my fronts always seem to wear more on the right of the tyre (sat on bike) it's to do with the camber of the road. But other than that nothing unusual. Also, I find that the front has lower profile of tread/rubber than the rear or am I talking out of my arse :nenau
I am sure that an expert will be along shortly. Me expert? No!!, I just chip in every now and then :D

IIRC the front starts with 5mm and the rear 8mm.

Always guessed it was so that you'd replace them in pairs and not get two rears to one front IYSWIM.

In a review of the 11XX quite a few years ago and i seem to remember them mentioning that it isn't unusual for the front to wear so fast as you can brake so much harder with the telelever suspension....................but it does seem odd on the 1200, with that having so much more power to the back wheel than the 11XX:augie

I'm having my first replacement rear Tourance fitted on Friday. 9500 miles. My front tyre is nothing like worn out and I anticipate replacing that as part of a pair when this new rear one is worn out.

Thanks for your response guys,

I am comparing front tyre with back and looking at tread depth but always assumed (:blast) that original tread depth would be similar, so the info regarding
differing tread depth may well explain my concerns.

Most likely I have no problem at all and loads of life left in both tyres. I personally think that Tourances are great both in wet and dry and will certainly keep them on the bike in the future.

6.3k on rear Anakee and loads left on the front for me!

I've got nearly 12k out of the front and 7.5k rear on Anakees but I wont be going for them again.

Hi Pog like the new avatar, its a good likeness!

Re tyres, the bridgestones that came on my 12 when I bought it in Dec 07 are disappointing. The dealer fitted a new rear and I've already flattened it off in the middle. Now I'm not aware my riding style has changed between the 1150 and the 1200, nor that the 1200 has so much more power to lay down over the 1150 that this would be anything other than the make up of the tyres? That's in under 2000 miles too.

Coincidentally I posted a question on the Bike mag forum to try and find the article they had a few months ago which was a suer test on tyres on the 1200. Can't remember what was tops then but when the tyres are shot they won't be replaced by Bridgestones (even if they came out top for road use) Er, i think I know what I mean........ :blast

Thank you very much, my son :D If you've been paying attention, you'll know why :augie

Today, I have ordered a pair of Conti Trail Attacks as they've had a lot of good press on here which is good enough for me. I'll give them a try and if they're cr*p, I'll give something else a go  Time will tell :augie

I actually think the Anakees are good - but the only reason why I got another one for the rear was that the front has loads of life left in it. I ride a combo of shyte potholed, farm mucked up roads and smooth tarmac - so all in all, they are fine and have not had one scary moment on them whatsoever come rain, snow or shine. Next time though I'll be getting some BT's just for the hell of it!
