Have just read through threads about tyre wear rates and would love to know the secret of obtaining 8/ 11000 miles out of any bike tyre!!!!
have just fitted new tourances to my gs1100 after 5500 miles, rear was just legal, front had about 1mm to go...... I don't do much motorway, just A roads, trips round alpine passes, so where am I missing out?? :(

You're not.

It just means you're riding it properly instead of riding like a wuss. ;)

I get 10,000 to 12,000 miles from my Pirelli MT90 Scorpions on my 1100 GS`s.

I run them at the two-up and laden pressures of 36 psi front and 42 psi rear all the time.

I`m 12.5 stone and do 75% of my riding solo.

I don`t exactly dawdle along, but I do ride fairly smoothly......'riding the torque' in the upper two gears rather than banging up and down the gearbox.

Both bikes are running Ultraseal in their tyres,too...and this was always claimed to help prolong tyre life :nenau

I rest my case... :D

(although TBH, I've found that the Scorpions last a bit longer than Tourances)

Got 11K plus out of mt last Tourances.

That's coz I ride like a speed God, and spend most of the time on the edges. Bet yours wore out in the middle eh? :ymca

I got about 9,500 miles out of my last rear Tourance and the front was cracked enough to warrent replacement... just had the Pirelli MT90 Scorpions fitted on Saturday.. scrubbed them in the Peaks the same day and loving them so far... I'll be keeping a close eye on there longevity... :thumb

Snap, my front tyre looked pretty ropey........

well, Ok I suppose I asked for it, but most tyres will wear out in the middle first, ....unless you spend your life lapping race tracks on track days!!! the point is all the stuff about them lasting for high mileages really does come down to how much you go for it... maybe its because i ride my gs like a normal bike...that could be where I am going awry...on my last fireblade I thought myself lucky to get 2500 out of a rear tyre and 4000 out of a front, so I suppose anything better than that out of these rather hard compound tyres is a bonus! :thumb
