A few months ago I asked for any advice on tyres for an R100 GS for use on a longish trip to Estonia that may have involved a good few miles on Gravel/dirt roads.
As usual on the forum I had a lot of good advice.
So, I thought it would only be fair to let you know that in the end I settled on a pair of Metzler Sahara 3`s.
They`ve just completed 4,700 miles out to Estonia and back, 2up and with all our camping gear, disco outfits and shiny shoes.
I must say I been very pleased with them. They`ve coped with sustained motorway riding, miles of gravel roads and it`s surprising how many types of gravel there are, grassy green lanes, muddy green lanes and sand.
Now I`m no off-road expert, and usually end up in situations that are a bit beyond me, but, I think that on a more road biased tyre we`d have been off on a few more occasions.
Infact, the only time I did drop the bike was somewhere in Latvia in a patch of deep, rutted sand.
All in all, splendid tyres that have covered some(but not all) of my short comings, and don`t seem to be wearing too badly either.
