I am a little scared to ask a tyre question but here goes...

I am starting a new job soon and will have an 80 mile commute each way. I have Anakee 2s on at the moment which are ready to be replaced and I want something that will not square off with all those motorway miles, will last well and will give good grip in the wet.

An impossible dream maybe?

Any ideas?

Avon Trailriders?

I love them as a tyre and being dual compound should resist squaring off to a degree

Local place I use has suggested Michelin PR5 Trail, also a dual compound and in stock.

Awake 3,s for my 64 mile each way commute .. all A road and Motorway ... personally they were very good :)

See if you can find a car tyre with symmetrical tread (not easy). It won’t corner like a bike tyre but it will last a lot longer on motorways where you won’t be doing much cornering.
Before folks scoff and tut tut - its not unusual for despatch riders to do this.

It might not grip as well on bends but a legal but squared off motorcycle tyre can also be very nasty. I would argue even worse as it was probably less worn and handled ok the last time something unexpected happened.

Some say car tyres are so good they work perfectly well on heavy bikes. https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cu...iders-prefer-auto-tires-on-their-motorcycles/

Looking on tyreleader the issue is finding the right size. Certainly there’s nothing in 19” rims that’s remotely narrow enough.

Personally I think you’d be better if with a small car for a run like that. Motorways are miserable on a bike.

I have found Tourances get me about 9k a set reliably

Re car tyre this will almost certainly invalidate your insurance, so whether or not you think it is bonkers, you should make sure to see if you have zero cover and unlimited personal liability before you take this option!

Buy yourself a commuter lighter bike with about 60 to 70bhp - you will achieve at least 50% more life with tyres

400 miles a week - so you will be servicing the bike every 14/15 weeks a minimum of 3 times a year.

Agree with previous op, buy your self a cheap car. Saw a 07 plate ford KA with 69k miles for £895 - motor trader on gum tree

Just re read your post. 80 miles each way, 160 miles a day?
Hope it pays well, I would consider s night or two a week in a bed and breakfast.

Fiat Panda Mk2. Great little cars but cheap as chips. The discs, pads, drums and shoes (all four corners) can be replaced for under £100. A clutch kit from the original manufacturer is £65. Back axles rust on older cars and cost a load from Fiat, but later model axle (including the Fiat 500) will fit and improve the handling.

I've been doing 40 mile commutes on the bike for the past year and it's a pain in the arse. Its also added miles to the bike costs more money overall and done nothing for my sanity. I don't even want to look at the bike at weekends.

I think you'll find you'll get greater mileage out of a road tyre than a dual use one. Something like metzeler Z8 or conti road attack for example..
