Tyres for Morocco

I'm off to Morocco for a 5 day tour in May and currently have Tourances fitted. I'm likely to need to replace the front prior to the trip so thought i'd replace both with a pair of TKS/Karoos/Heidenau K60s etc. I've always had Tourances and love them but feel i should probably go for more off road biased tyres for this trip. I've heard TKCs wear fast and been told i'd probably get through a rear just on this trip..

So what do you all recommend?

cant comment on the others but tks were good. about 3500 from the rear and about 5000 from the front.they take a bit of getting used to but no probs after a few miles. j

All depends on what you're going to be doing once you get there Chris.

If you do go for TKC's, don't be alarmed by the initial wear. They square off fairly rapidly and it can be quite daunting initially. Once you have more rubber on the road the wear rate slows down

If you are riding down all the way and back, don't expect any more mileage from TKC's after the trip.

We used TKCs for a seven week trip to Morocco via Spain and Portugal. The were fine with luggage one up on our F800GS and F650GS (the 800 engine) in wet and dry and a bit of off-road in the Atlas mountains with luggage. The rear tyres needed to be replaced on our return (about 5000 miles, if I recall). We never got a puncture so all that tube changing gear I took remained unused.

Tourances are fine for most stuff, mud and sand you'd be better off with knobblies. TKC80s are fine with wear, I did Dakar and back on a 1200 GS Adventure on one set. Been using them for years.
