tyres for R80g/s

Charlie, standard g/s size is 18 x 4.00. It may stretch to a 110 however, on my special I had a 110 (can't remember what, Mike will know) and it started to rub away at the swinging arm. Then you need to look at what Nin's doing and get the rear wheel built with some offset.

There's enough manufacturers making this size tyre, Metzeler Enduro 1 and 2, and the Sahara 3s. Pirelli do MT 45s (trials tyre) and the MT21s. The Continental TKC 70s and 80s fit too. I think Avon still do sizes to fit too. There's probably more than that.

By the way, the front standard size is 21 x 3.00, although there's a bit more flexibility on the width I think.

For the price of tyres, and for the look, I'd either go for the Metzeler Enduro 1 and 2 (front and rear) or the TKC 80s.

Both types are good standard tyres that you won't notice you have on and are perfectly good on the road, with the TKCs having a bit more off road.

The Metzelers were designed for the R80g/s when it came out, as there were no other on/off road tyres for the weight and speed at the time.

We took the off-sets from the original wheels before cutting the spokes off and that's what they'll come back with so I guess i'll just look for the 21x3 and 18x4

Apparently at the moment the front wheel is done but he says he's yet to 'true' the rear as he didn't have the correct size 'widgets' to centralize the hub as it has no bearings in it...if that makes sense?

18” offers a much wider tyre choice than the 17” on the 100GS but if you’re looking for the knobbly look like the TKC80 your choice is more limited and you will be trading some tarmac performance for better off road performance. If you want to fit a 130/140 rear you can offset the rim but it may cause slightly odd handling on the road. Michelin deserts can have their knobs trimmed to avoid hitting the shaft housing

That is correct.

On the l/h side of the hub the wheel builder can use a conical support, but on the right you need an adaptor.

If needed a K100/K75 abs wheel spacer could help fine tune the rear wheel clearance to s/arm. If needed I think I have one.

...hmmm ...the swinging arm has (i think Mikey said) about 3mm clearance each end to the frame... so ... is it not posible to biase it hard to the arm side and maybe use the barny spacer that way effectively moving the arm away from the wheel and keeping the wheel still central?

Just rethought that statement regarding the spacer , I had forgotten you have 3 stud hubs the K's are 4. But no reason not to make a spacer to suit.

My g/s came with Pirelli Scorpion AT MT90 tyres on .Looks like they have never been used , I found the manufactured date wk 38 2018. Are they any good ?
Ill only be using the bike for country laneing Ive just listened to a review saying there 70% on road 30% off road,

3 years old, I'd use them. In fact, most of my tyres are about that age. :D

I'd not even bother replacing under 5 or 6 years or when there was evidence of cracking.

I had Scorpions on mine and replaced them last year, they were dated 2006! I put Metzeler Karoo Street on, because they were a good offer and I am very pleased with them. Pretty quiet on the road, good grip - no idea about wet grass or other off road though. I AM FRIT WHEN IT IS SLIPPY UNDERFOOT!
