never used the bike off road and dont intend to do so. wondering about fitting a pure road tyre like the battlax 023. anybody done that? any disadvantages?

Fitted Pilot Road 4's last month. Main disadvantage is they don't look as cool. ;-)

If you can live with that then enjoy the extra grip, better mileage etc.

Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast - Arnold "Ace" Rimmer

Yep as above - fitted my first PR4 at the weekend and headed out for some wet miles. Overall very good - just hope it lasts longer than the PR3.

Hi I use Roadsmart II - very good road tyre but I picked up a puncture abroad and now have a mismatch with a BT023 on the rear. I think on balance I'll swap the rear back to the Roadsmart rather than the front to a 023. Obviously the mix won't help but i think the handling was sharper before the change.

I've been running continental trail attacks for 4 years and have been delighted with their performance in the dry & wet. Wear rate is pretty good too, circa 8k + miles a set....:D

Change out the wheels and get yourself some sticky Bridgestone T30's rear is 190 sect and it handles great

Birdseye You started your thread asking about BT23 I have had some, lasted 5000 miles they wore out on the sides not the centre ,but they gripped like mad. Went for Anakee 3 this time ,now 5000 miles only about half worn but they don't feel "as nice" don't know how else to describe them as they have not let go at all. They are incredibly noisy however. Would I buy them again?? probably not I shall go for full road tyres just because they "feel" better and that would give me more confidence.

Now all you experts can tell me I am talking a load of sh*t but we can still all have our own opinion on here-- Cant we ??

The BT023 on my rear seems to be wearing quite well. It's a wider tyre than the Roadsmart and I perfer the look of them on the bike. I haven't seen many posts on them and am not sure why they rarely get a mention. Tempted to switch over as they are easier to find than the Dunlops and seem more robust (given the number of punctures I have picked up with the RS).

Trail attacks don't look like off road tyres but give you an option on dirt tracks and crappy weather. They also grip very well and look good. Road attacks are pure Street, last well and grip very well. They also look good, like a slick with some minor tread cut in them.

In all honesty you will get a 100 different answers to what tyres!

I've Battlewings, Conti Trail Attacks, Roadsmart (I's) and PR3's. I don't go off road and thought both the Roadmarts and PR3's excellent tyres with the PR3's just edging it in the wet. I didn't like the Conti's - I had the front let go twice in the dry. Battlewings were OK until half worn but then went down hill fast so I had the change them even with 3mm still left on the rear.

Maxxis SuperMax touring on the back and detour trail style on the front (they don't make a 19" Supermax)

Chang Shin Crashmasters front and rear, or if less grip required try the Ditchfinders by the same company :D

Happily ride to the edge of the tread on either BT023s or PR4s. Both excellent in the wet also.

Can't really be arsed to work out mileage, but I think I probably get about 7 or 8K from a rear Bridgestone.

Any pure road tyre's going to be better than the "neither one thing or the other" Anakee/Distanzia/Tourance type of thing.
