When all the lucky blighters get to test the new bikes please can they post some feedback on the following

Type of tyres fitted, MCN mentioned that the standard bike was on trail wings which were rubbished by one and all.

Anyone tried the new Tourance 2? As I intend to remain on tarmac exclusively what would be the recommended tyre?

the ride height when using ESA for normal riding with luggage, plus sport mode with luggage,

Ride height with ESA for two up riding with luggage in comfort, normal and sport

The local BMW agent has decided that they will not provide test bikes, hence my dilema.

All advice appreciated.

Cheers :beerjug:

the new Tourance 2 is brilliant wet or dry,

OE rubber on my June 2007 12GS was Battle Wings and I find them excellent in all conditions :thumb

My new bike came with Battlewings. Find them shite in the wet. Had Anakees on my previous GS and they were much better in most conditions, but didn't wear very well.

Did test some bikes with Tourance and they didn't have the grip levels of the Anakee, but were better than the Battlewings.

Totaly agree with you on that,But the new Tourance is so much better,

Didn't conti raod Attack win Bike's big trailie tyre test last year? Was looking for the edition with it in but can't find it. Typical. Mines got what I take to be OE as Jeffries replaced the rear with a new Battle thing.

Tyres are a funny one aren't they :nenau

I've got Battlewings (VERY different from Trailwings JR1K) on at the mo. (previous tyres; D607's - brilliant and 020's - also brilliant, but slow steering) and have just got back from a 200 mile ride on mostly single track lanes around Derbyshire. All covered in cack and some more like fast moving rivers (well almost ;)) and the only time I could get the tyres to let go was to purposfully give big handfulls on bends to get the back to drift.

The ride back home was on nice quick A roads and I wasn't hanging about - again, they were faultless :thumb2

Bridgestone Battlewings - great in my opinions, wet or dry.
Bridgestone Trailwings - ok in the dry, hopeless in the wet.

Will need to replace curent Road Attcjs before too long, and will use the same (and not just because the front is hardly worn while the rear is squared quite badly).

Have found Tourance to be good in the past, so looking forward to trying Tourance EXP when the opportunity presents itself.

I rate Michelin Pilot Roads for the road.

And TKC80's for off-road.

I cannot be arsed with these mddle of the road tyres, I have two sets of wheels and it takes ten mins to change them, but I usually just ride around on the TKC's, unless I know I'm out with some really fast guys on rice burners or I'm doing a long road trip, then I put the Michelins on.

Hi Andres! Glad to hear you're back on the road, last time I heard, you'd introduced your bike to a car.

I have the battle wings on mine and whilst I'm still to the GS they give great confidence. Compared to the BT014's I'm used to on the 'Blade :D I'd be intrested to try others though! When I get through this set.

There were 3 '08 GSA's at North Oxford being PDI'd when I was there last week, all running Battle Wings.:D

I've got Tourance EXP's (not sure if they are the same as Tourance 2's). They are excellent and much better than the original Tourances for me.

I ride in all weathers in town and on the motorway and ride reasonably fast.

I don't ride off road so can't comment on that aspect.

They feel very similar to my pal's conti road attacks.

I reckon the EXP's or the Road attacks will serve you well.

I have used Tourance for many years on trail bikes and found them very good in wet and dry conditions.Since buying my GS it came with Anakees and I also found the grip of these very good in wet and dry conditions. The problem with these is the soft tyre wall which flexes when cornering fast on A road sweepers and makes the bike unsettled. As the grip is good the compound must be quite soft as they wear out quickly.
I have now fitted Tourance 2 on the bike and noticed a big difference in high speed handling, absolutely rock steady. The tyre profile is more curved like a road tyre and gives a very smooth drop in to corners .The transition on flicking the bike thru left and right handers is excellent with no unsettling of the bike. Low speed manouvering is good.
Dont no about wear rate yet but can say these are the best trail tyres Ive yet had.
Like all trail tyres, mud and wet grass are a no no and T2's are no exception.

I had "deathWings" on my first R1200GS and they were great in the dry (but aren't all tyres) but lethal in the wey. I kept loosing my back end. I've had Tourances on my 850 and they were superb wet or dry and I have them on my 1150 GSA and again just superb. The rear one is shot and due for replacing next week and its a no brainer which ones to go for ... the cheapest they have.

as long as they are Tourance;)
