As previously posted, I do like Pirelli's MT21's but can't make up my mind about more road/general purpose tyres. I sam looking for durability and longetivity not top speed handling 'cos I'm an :rob :D

It's a tossup between:
Metzeler Tourance
and
Continental Escapes.

I'd be interested to know your views on either or both and the mileage you got from using them

I,ve been using escapes for the past 3500 miles and rear is squaring of quickly, reackon in 1000 miles it will need to be replaced had hoped for a lot more miles that that, but the front is like new:D

I swapped from Anakees to Tourances at 8500 miles, now at 12000 miles and the Tourances still look new!

Having put them on and found them superb - I really wonder if I should have fitted road tyres! rather than touring/dual porpoise tyres. Still it allows for a little green laning - of the tame variety!

tyres

Hi I have been using escapes for the last year the rear has now done approx 6500 miles and has about 3mm of tread left they give good grip wet or dry . claires 650gs has tourances fitted and to me feels no where near as sure footed as my 650gs oh and escapes were about 20% cheaper to buy
Hope ths helps Hovis:beerjug:

Thanks Hovis

to help focus
Could everyone posting put:
* actual mileage done on a particular tyre and mm tread left?
* whether this was riding solo with luggage or not? or 2 up etc
cheers

My tourances have done 10,000+ miles and still have some thread, not sure the mm's but i'm sure they would last another 500miles. They are starting to perish a bit. Ride all year round. No real off road except the odd mountain track. I live in a mountains area and most of my riding is done on twisty tarmac roads.

I ride solo full luggage, heavy abus chain lock in LHPannier, full camera kit in other and rain gear and misc in givi52L top box.

Never used continentals but see no reason to change.

On my VFRs(3) used bridgestone battlaxs, but as i say happy with tourances.

Hope this helps.

D

.....learn to drive smooth and dont go hammering the brakes, you'll get good miles out most tyres, regardless of what bike/tyre combo.

I used Tourances on my 1150 (4 sets) and got 7500-8000 from the rear & about 10000 from the front. I`ve got through my first set on the 650 getting 10000 from the rear and 12000 on the front. I think the mileage obtained is brilliant especially as the bike was ridden hard. I`ve used different makes on the 1150 and did`nt find any better grip than from the tourance so I`ve no motivation to change.

Have you been drinking? silly question!

I think you've lost the plot GarryC.....
This is a poll to estimate wear and tear and a comparison on 2 manufacturers...

Thank you for your comment but may I say that after over 33 years of motorcycling...... I think your post is..... :mmmm :censor:

Here's mine:

1150Adv, solo riding, commuting into London.

Tourance:
Front: 8 - 9,000 miles
Rear: 9 - 10,000 miles but normally changed at the same time as the front.

Heidenau K60 (just for comparison)
Front: 6,000 miles
Rear: probably 9,000miles but about to be changed as the fronts knackered!

good stuff

Hi David:)

NP U gottaloveit;) 'cos it helps you see at night and keeps you warm too!:P

looks like an average wear for the Tourance since it seems more popular is about 9000 miles on the rear and a couple more on the front.
So with some rubbish surfaces could count 7K and 10K as reasonable.
Thanbks for the info boys and girls
