Evening
Could you suggest a nice route to Tyrol Austria I was planning going by Reims staying one night in Epinal then arriving in Tyrol the next evening any suggestions would be appreciated .
We're going in mid June

Thanks

Andrew

You can ride down through France via Reims and then go south into the Vosges. Look up Route des Cretes which runs south towards Cernay from St Marie aux Mines.

The mileage between your overnight stops is not huge so you have plenty of scope for taking scenic roads.

There's a decent auberge just south of Epinal on the Col du Bussang which would be good for an overnight stop http://www.coldebussang.com/fr/accueil.htm

From the Vosges you can go down to Basel and through northern Switzerland to get to the Tyrol or cross the Rhine into the Southern Black Forest and head for Lake Constance. Depends which part of the Tyrol you are heading for.

The alternative route is to head into Belgium, through the Ardennes, Luxembourg and then down to Baden Baden and through the Black Forest. Overnight somewhere near the Belgium/Lux border and then thesouthern end of the Black Forest on day 2. Both give you pleasant routes to Austria with 2 overnight stops.

Wessie has said it all :thumb2

All you need now is a map :D

What this forum needs is not a Travel section but a 'What's the best way to go?' section.

Timmelsjoch pass

If you are going to the Tyrol then you may as well do the Timmelsjoch Pass while you are there. It is too good to be missed, even if you only cross it into Italy and turn round and do it again. Fabulous.

Depending on how long you have got you can ride many awesome passes, if you don't have to get there in two days then don't, take three :thumb

From Metz I would haed towards Andermatt via Lucerne, the detour a little to take in the Grimsel and Furka Passes (Lucerne - Meringen - Andermatt) and then over the Oberalp and towards Chur stop where you fancy, you could get to Chur the same day if pressing on and not messing about too much, or stop anywhere from Andermatt - Chur.

Then your almost there so could easily add the Timmelsjoch to your trip.

You could also loop south a bit and take in any number of passes including the Splugen, Albula, Julier, Fluella and even the Stelvio.

So many options if you add the extra day :thumb
