I'm sure that this must have been discussed before somewhere but I can's find it.

Can anybody tell me the official Insurance Group that the R1200GS belongs to? Carole Nash today told me Group 15 and increased my premium by £48 for the final quarter of the year from Group 14 (GSX1400). Can anyone confirm or otherwise, coz I just don't trust them and the cover note says R1200 and not R1200GS.

Im fairly sure that the R1200GS is group 13. My previous bike was VTEC VFR which was 14 and the GS was a lower group!

Try getting an online quote with ebike.

Thanks Ian - anybody else want to chip in? This confirms what I was thinking, but I needed the Insurance damn quick as I get the bike on Wed and the dealer needed the certificate ASAP. The Insurance is due in March, so I will shop around it they don't see the errors of their ways :D

Oh and sorry if this Thread is in the wrong Topic, it's more of a technicality than summit technical in the sense of mechanics etc

Insurance Group

My Bennets' cover note says it is Group 13.

Omer.

I think you will find that the motorcycle insurance companies haven't agreed on a set insurance grouping system like the car industry have. Norwich Union used to be the industry standard going up to 17 groups, but I think Equity Red Star have as many as 22.

And there is also the possibility that one company might have had a bad claims year on one particular model so they regroup it for the following year.

Carol Nash, group 13 quote this weekend via Equity Red Star.

Why does it matter what group it is, you pays what you pays. Come renewal time, shop around and go for the best value quote......simple.

Thanks everyone. GSMonkey has summed it up. It doesn't really matter what group it's in if there isn't a guarantee that a lower grouping will make it cheaper, or indeed more expensive in my case.

Nashies have told me Group 15 (Royal Sun Alliance) and charged me another £48 for 3 months cover until expirey. Perhaps I'm just a Meany by name and meany by nature :mmmm but I will shop around anyway this year, as it's been 3 years since my spate of accidents!!!

BMW themselves via dealer (Devitts underwriter) Group 13, was cheaper than all the others and tonnes less than my old Bandit 600.

Beware of Bennetts :dabone , they would let me change my policy after 9 months saying BMWs weren't covered, so I had to forfeit 9 months NCB - gits.....

The BMW scheme is cheap if thats what matters to you, and they do recognise the BMW alarm which most companies wont wince it isnt Thatcham etc. My premium is £114 fully comp. OK I'm older have full NCB and live in SE Wales, but they were still much below all the usual alternatives.

BMW insurance (via Devitt) £130 less than Carol Nash. stay at home boys no cence playing away.

The Alarm aint Thatcham approved ! They didn't tell me that when I bought it. Thinking about it, that's probably why it was £175 as opposed to £350!

I go and pick up my baby today :)

It matters to me. I dont want to overpay for insurance and the cover is good (multiple bikes)
