Unable to open map update file

I have just paid to update to the 2010 maps for my Zumo 550

I've downloaded the exe file (3GB) twice and when I try and launch the exe file my PC just hangs and nothing happens. Apparently its supposed to extract data and update your maps on your PC and Zumo

I'm using Vista and the PC is working fine

Any ideas anyone???

I upgraded free when I registered my new Zumo.

When I downloaded the maps a file was placed on the desktop.

It is Garmin_rmu......

I opened this and it unpacked and instlled the Maps ok to both the Zumo and my old copy of Mapsource.

I had this problem and thought it had hung- rebooted twice.

The answer is to be patient- it takes a while but will fire up eventually. Also make sure you have something to do when its actually doing the map update on the zumo- it takes well over an hour- perhaps near two.

I had this grief when updating a Nuvi. I downloaded the 3GB executable twice, thinking that it had misbehaved the first time. To make it run (Windows Vista, fully up to date) I right-clicked it and selected "Run as Administrator" and it fired up. It takes a couple of hours to reach the stage where it tries to update the sat-nav, at which point mine gave up. This was diagnosed as a faulty Nuvi which Garmin propmtly replaced under warranty Loading new maps also takes hours so if you can get the .exe to run then leave it alone for a very long time while you go riding/raise your great-grandchildren/drink beer.
