Underseat storage space

I bought my '06 1200GS last week and am totaly amazed by it! Why didn't I get one earlier!?

Today I took most of it apart and gave it a good cleaning and waxing. When I had both seats off, I noticed a space just behind where the toolkit sits. It looks like it could hold a D-type wheel lock but I don't see how you would get it in there!?
Anybody know what this omnious space is for?

A D type shackle lock

The U bit goes in the recess and the shackle fits in the tool tray.

And the "U" bit rattles like hell in the Tray. I had to wrap some Pipe Insulation around mine and that did the trick.

thats where you store the spare antenna ring , zip tie and tape though
