Just been to have a look at this 'barn kept' bike, looking very sorry for itself.
Trying to get an idea of what it could be, told it could be a DOT but no indications at all. Could it be a Francis Barnett, ?.
No registration, no chassis numbers and only used as a farm bike many moons ago.
Took some rather dodgy pictures and my research is on going, I only had a few minutes to look around it.. Could it be just a bitsa, or something more interesting.
It has Villiers engine, poss a 247cc, a largish tank, very large hubs and really the pictures are the best I have..???? All guesses welcome.
Cheers, Steve.

I thought it might be a 'post-1956' Ambassador Supreme, which acquired the Villiers 2T in '56. However the hubs don't look right.

I couldn't find a picture showing the handlebar clamp - which looks German to me :augie.

A good find, it will be interesting to see what it really is.

Bob.

Thank you all for the input so far, all somewhere around the mark..probably leaning towards parts of a F-Barnett, and lots of unknown as yet to be identified.
The giveaway part I look at is the tank with a seemingly over sized cap, not seen anything similar on Villiers engined machine. The alloy handlebar clamp should also be a give away and again I think it would be ?? Model specific.
The oversize hubs I'm leaning towards them being wheels from something as yet to be discovered but probably Triumph BSA ish..

Please keep the ideas and guesses coming, it's really bugging me what it is, something with potential or a nasty ol farm bitsa that's done its time and best put out to corrode back into the earth..
If nothing else the research so far is interesting and DKW,s now look appealing more and more.
Cheers Steve:thumb2

Update, I know think Voyager was on to something with the Ambassador, it's the Tank, and the large cap a good giveaway.
At one time it was probably a model called a 3 Star...
Interestingly it was rescued from going into a skip many years ago...deja vu!!

Thanks for all input
Steve

May have even looked like this once...an odd cookie and hence the Ambassador bike business was eventually sold to DKW. Has a very Eastern European look and a bit of Flash Gordon thrown up over it !

As I remember the Ambassador with the 250 twin was called a Super S., a mate had a red one I may well be wrong but I think the 3 Star was a 197 single. it all seems so long ago.
