I have got myself a garmin engineers "unlock disc", unlocks maps so you can use your card in any garmin unit. I've used it and it works

If it's a disc, try making a copy using your preferred copying software and try it on someone else's setup.

I'm guessing if it does there's going to be a stream of people wanting them. I imagine they're pretty rare and Garmin wouldn't want people knowing about them

exactly, give it a few days after any update comes out and you can just download the maps from gpsunderground.

2 ways to do it, mapsource version and the sd card version, sd card and put it in any device - can not be used with mapsource.

mapsource version, is as the paid for version. jetmouse unlocker works well, failing that the alternative unlocker works perfectly.
