Checking the tyres last week, I came upon an unusual shallow cut on the offside tread of the rear tyre (Bridgestone Battlewing) - straight cut; about 1/2 mm deep, 30mm wide, like a flap but against the direction of rotation. Thought that it might have been a sharp cattle grid or similar.
Went out the other day, expecting that wear and tear on the tyre would remove the cut; did just over 300 miles and checked the rear tyre when I returned - the cut was still there, still about 1/2 mm deep and same width; but, bugger me if there isn't another one on the nearside of the tyre, opposite the first, exactly the same. They're not straight across the tread but at about a 30 degree angle in the middle of tread blocks.
Anyone else come across this sort of thing - I've used Battlewings on the bike (2005 1200GS) since new; this is the 7th pair and have just over 2000 miles on them. Bike has 53000 miles on it and I am not an aggressive rider.
