Updates garmin 2610

I know that it was probably the wrong thing to do but I purchased from "e" bay a 2610 for £205, its fully functional with a 1 gig card and all of europe maps pre installed, these tell me its version 7 of the maps and version 4.6 of the software, i did not get any cd or unlock details for this unit, can the maps be updated or will it cost me an arm and a leg to do so.
Also I have backed up the card to hard disc and cd in case it gets corupted is it just a case of putting these files back on the card to get it working in the case of a card failure ?. Ron.

Yes, you MUST have the unit registered with Garmin to benefit from cheaper map upgrades.
