Hi to you all this is my first post on this board.

I want to upgrade my headlight bulbs (1200gs), and I am wondering if they really do make a difference or will I be better off spending more for a HID kit off ebay.

cheers

HID.....HID......HID.....HID.....HID.....HID.....HID.....HID!!!!!!!!!

Send Colbatch a PM and see what he's got. The 50W kit is awesome.

Les Wassall has brackets and your night life will improve substantially. Posh bulbs are better than standard but nowhere near HID.

Go on.......what are you waiting for :thumb2

It depends what you want to achieve. I upgraded bulbs first which certainly made the bike more visible to other road users. I had less trouble filtering etc - clearly the PIAA blue/white light was more distinctive in mirrors etc.

But, it didn't much difference to what I could see. I added extra lights (PIAA 510 (main beam) / Hella DE (dipped beam) which gave me the visibility I wanted.

I suspect the issue is the same here. Upgrading bulbs will get you seen - the HID may be needed if you want to see.

I think the PIAAs are a big improvement over the standard bulb. I live 5 minutes from the A3 (daily comute into London) so can't really justify the extra cost of the HIDs. I also found that the main beam seems more effective with a Touratech anti glare shield.

The main issue is that they don't last very long.

HID is the way to go - you can get a pair of 35W'ers off FleaBay for around £65 (and split a set if you only want to do the dip) or you can go the whole hog and get Colebatch's 50W'ers (which I have).

I previously changed from standard to SilverStar bulbs, but wouldn't contemplate anything other than HID's now.
