Hi,

Any idea what it will cost me to upgrade from City Nav europe V5 to V7? Is it $150 =vat?

Cheers,
Brian

OK I'll let you know when I've done it.

One of the suppliers recommended upgrading every two years unless you really, really had to have the most upto date map details.

Yes, the cost should be $150+VAT.

Upgrade only if you really need it. Examples:

1. Norway is not included in V5. Upgrade if you need Norway.

2. Italy & Spain are really poor in all versions including v7. If you want a better map for those countries you will have to wait.

The alternative is to find someone who only has, or only intends to get one GPS unit...then you could buy their second unlock code for V7.

Cezch Rep & Ireland

Are the map details a lot better for v7 for Cezch Rep and Ireland. I'm running v6 but want to go to both place this year. Last year the map detail in Ireland was poor.

Is there a site where you can compare the differences?

Anyone on v7 that thinks its really worth it?

Yes, look at Garmins site and they'll have a viewer for v7. Not as easy to use as Mapsource!

Upgrade to V7

I upgraded to V7 last week.
The total cost came to $175 which came to £94 once it had reached my credit card.
Now I don't mind paying to upgrade, that is my choice, but what really P**ses me off is when I have to pay American tax, Why? I don't live there and don't even want to visit the bloody country, so why should we have to donate $25 to them.

Errm, that's British tax (or EU tax :P) - it's VAT paid on something you've bought from Garmin UK - it's just charged in dollars...

Mike:)

Hi,

Got around to upgrading to V7 from V5 and just paid for the single upgrade i.e jumping straight from 5 to 7. So the strategy of upgrading every 2 years is OK.

Cheers,
Brian

For lots of stuff these days, even if you buy from America, a VAT charge is levied.

It's all to do with the bastrad EU!

hold on a sec, what am i missing here, i've recently taken delivery of my v6 with my quest unit, i'm sure it only came with 1 unlock code???

I've spoken to Garmin, they're shipping me V7 as a free upgrade, and i'll register it online to get my automatic unlock code...

i'm confused  where does the 2nd unlock code come from?????? And while we're on that subject, if i want to put the mapsource on a second pc/laptop (that i own) how do i go about it? Do i use the same unlock code again? Or is it rendered useless once used?

cheers...

Stu. :beerjug:
