Upgrading Android

I have inherited an ALPS MQ1016M tablet running Android 4.4.2 It's dreadful. Is there any benefit to installing a later OS or should it be thrown away as useless? If an OS upgrade is worthwhile, where would I get it from?

Unless some is doing a custom android build you won't be able to upgrade the OS. I doubt it is avaliable and I also doubt it would be any better than what you have. Basically it's a shit tablet. Silk purse, pigs ear and all that.
