Hi , I have a 2020 V7III special I shipped to France as part of a move back after working in the US, it seems that the bike was built for the US market and so getting a conformity cert has proved very difficult. I have been trying with Piaggio France directly.

As it has both miles and km's on the speedo , I was thinking maybe it's easier to first register in the UK but not sure if that is feasible/worthile, but if it was then it might be easier even if its just try and sell I. I'd love to keep and ride in France, its only got 1400 miles on it, but think the process seems incredibly complicated.

Would anyone have any experience with US to UK conformity ?

many thanks

I think it would be easier to get a CoC for a bike from USA to France than from UK to France, the headlight would dip the correct way and it has Kms on the speedo. Oh yeah, you might need help from a fluent French speaker too. Let us know how it goes.

I’m in the middle of getting my three BMW airheads registered in France right now. None of them have European CoC’s because of their age. One of them is 47 years old and I’ve applied to the FFVE for a historic/collector vehicle certificate which if I get one will mean I can register it without a CoC (you can apply for this certificate from the FFVE for anything over 30 years old). One of the other bikes is over 30 years old but has been modified which means it won’t qualify as a historic/collector vehicle and needs a DREAL single vehicle inspection/approval certificate before it can be registered. The other bike is under 30 years old and also needs to go through the DREAL inspection. It’s essentially the same process as in the UK. I’m just waiting to get my DREAL inspections set up. In the meantime I’ve got the bikes registered on temporary French WW plates which you can have for 4 months while you’re sorting out the permanent registration, this enables you to get French insurance as well.

I don’t think it’s worth registering it in the UK before taking it to France because it doesn’t change the process you’ll have to go through in france

thanks, it sounds like WW plates would definitely buy a bit of time and then allow me to take bike to dealer / control technique etc

I used Eplaque to get the temporary WW registration done. They were pretty good and I will use them again for the definitive carte gris
