USB KEY STOPED WORKING

Hi

My USB key has packed up

any ideas on how to get info from it please..

it says 'one of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not reconise it'

rebooting may help, or try plugging into a different pc.

i've had that message where the pc's usb drivers have thrown a wobbly.

Also try it in a different USB slot.....for some reason that works sometimes.

If that all fails, try uninstalling all the USB controllers from Control panel then reboot and let the PC re-detect them, then try again once it's all settled down (I mean the message 'device has been installed and is ready to use....then after that plug the stick into the slot again)

I have tried a different slot and PC but still no luck.

Who wants me to post it to them so they can have a go at fixing it??

I suspect that if it's actually a problem with the USB stick, you're going to need professional (and expensive) help to recover the data

(there are companies who will do it- a Google search on 'data recovery USB stick' should turn something up)

Do try it in a different PC first though, in case it is a PC/USB driver/port type problem.


If you've got nobody nearby with another machine, take it along to PC world or currys and stick it in one of their machines...if it shows up correctly, at least you'll know it's working and it's your PC no the stick
