Wanted to be able to run my HTC phone and charge the Scala G4 whilst away from home and normal power supplies. I didn't want add another accessory socket, so opted for one of these

Fitted up on the yoke all clear of problems, and easy to run the waterproof USB cables to either the bag on the handle bars or to the phone on the ram mount.

Have also mounted on my wife's F800.
Although easy to wire in it was a pain to find a good spot to mount it.

You can get them here, took about 5 days to turn up, I am sure you can find similar around the UK

Burnsmoto charges $36 for the same thing without a fuse, and battery tapes.

Fine if you wish to get it and do it yourself.

3BR is fused and taped, with a much better mount for $32.

Not wishing to be a pain, but its currently advertised at $24 on the burnsmoto website, and why would you want an external fuse on somthing that has an internal fuse built in, it only draws 5v with a maximum of 900 ma, why wouldnt you want the ring connectors? because it was a feck site easier to wire it in somwhere other than a battery and in any case a pack of ring connectors is about £1.50 for six.

The basic thing is $24 but to compare like for like. The extras I would rather have and the quality is there call me pedantic but i prefer to have the inline fuse even if there is one internal that resets automatically,(they both have) I think I would rather be aware that it is resetting and there is something tripping the system.

The mount allows some movement in the mounting point which when on the yoke is very handy Burnsmoto mount, was limiting not practical for the areas I could mount the device.

N1Rat a Friend had one of those and when I compare it to the 3BR the quality is just not there, their metal body equivalent is also much better. If I was to panel mount then a barrel socket would have been the option but I wasn't, it was all open mount so a fully enclosed waterproof option is what I wanted.

AS I said you can find similar and I am sure cheaper. But as they supplied other bits which no on could in the UK for a similar price, with the other bits in all I am still ahead.

I have just started stocking a twin USB socket that clamps on to the handlebar, it comes with about 1.25 metres of cable and includes a fuse, it has a waterproof rubber cover so it should stay dry when not in use. its not quite as neat as the one Straydog has fitted as it is the size of a cigarette socket but it is a simple solution to powering you phone on the bike.

The price is £20.99

USB Power

I connected a normal cigarette lighter and then use a USB insert. That way my options are open. I can use either...

I have one of these. http://www.powerlinkproducts.co.uk/usbachargingsocket.html
On my bike. UK supply £2 for post. Used it for over a year to charge my phone.
Perhaps worth considering?

+1, i also bought the waterproof cable, not cheap but well worth it. Wired it to the battery via an aux fusebox so it can charge the iPhone etc without ignition. Drilled the winglet (think thats what its called) think its a better fit than cable ties :thumb2

No mention of output current which suggests only 500mA (USB standard) which is not really good enough for most modern kit.

I bought a handful of these:
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/ucT8zpofHPbdoqudsK5g70OOAeJkWHiivqDz0FeWdvU?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-aSpAc2jVxrc/TmfYf9ekZyI/AAAAAAAAFMk/Sq_IlnoL_O4/s800/IMG_6001.JPG" height="600" width="800" /></a>

Come in a variety of configurations and pin numbers (minimum being 3) and bare or with moulded on flying leads. They're waterproof when mated with another connector and come with waterproof caps.

<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/fRiygL8pN6WO0q5-CZEVj0OOAeJkWHiivqDz0FeWdvU?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-OT9LsSdynZc/TmfYiFz-d4I/AAAAAAAAFMs/Z9okYLIU7GQ/s800/IMG_6003.JPG" height="600" width="800" /></a>

I ran one lead backwards to a bulkhead connector on the underside of my topbox

<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/rIiGNBpltH8-eVgArcG2RkOOAeJkWHiivqDz0FeWdvU?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-kLi3mIpkvsI/TmZQORJ4buI/AAAAAAAAFMY/kAar9Lx9waI/s800/IMG_5996.JPG" height="600" width="800" /></a>

and one forwards to the back of the tank so I can tuck it into the tank bag. For the 'business end' I made up a few different adaptors, but I mainly just use a standard 12v accessory socket with a motormonkey.

All powered from a fused feed from the battery controlled by a relay (so I can't forget, leave something connected and flatten my battery if I'm away from the bike - not a problem for you 1200 riders).

I bought a stainless steel L shaped plate off someone on this parish and mounted it nicely on the left side of my Dash, against the fairing bolts. So nicely presented and wires run under tank to battery. No cable ties and it looks pukka. Cost a tenner for the plate. Lead and cable to it cost about £5. Got a waterproof cap too.

Nice
