USB to ethernet conversion???

Hi

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The situation is the following: I've already got a broadband connection via a USB ADSL modem to my PC. I've just bought a laptop that I'd like to connect to the internet at the same time and so thought about a wireless router. Without thinking about it too hard I bought a Dell Truemobile 2300 one cheap on ebay only to discover (too late ) that it requires an ethernet input.

So the question is: can I get an USB to ethernet converter that will allow me to use my existing modem or am I going to have to buy a different modem?

Any other suggestions of solutions will be gratefully received.

in your situation, i'd put the Dell router back on ebay & buy a proper modem/router (not expensive) & connect your PCs to it via ethernet.

why does it 'require' ethernet ?

No - my mistake - I didn't check on it beforehand, it only has ethernet (RJ45) connections.

Yeah i had the same thing. I had an ASDL router when i was with . Then i changed to telewest that is ethernet. I tried loads of stuff to get it to work. In the end i am afraid i had to buy an ethernet router.

You're probably better off with an ethernet router as USB modems are unlikely to support ADSL2 or 2+ when it arrives.

Ethernet cards are about £5-10 even from PC world and will probably be recognised nativly if you've got something reasonably recent as an o/s (which if you're using USB you probably have). Easy to install (open computer box, plug in, close box)
There are USB ethernet adapters but they cost a more (about £15-20) and probably would make your machine run slower.
