Just wondering what effect do you think the new 2008 GS will have on a used GS's resale value. Will the prices hold steady or drop dramatically due to the new model release?

They are bound to drop, more reason to keep your "not so new" GS :D

My 07 GSA, 10dkm's, NOT 1 PROBLEM :thumb2

I was in Alan Jefferies-Yorkshire yesterday enquiring about swapping my 3year old 12gs for a new Adv and they were prepared to offer me the same money as quoted 6months ago.

Seems ok?!!!

Don`t worry

Any new model is bound to affect the used values of earlier ones. Woudn`t worry about it and just get out and ride!:thumb

My impression looking at second hand values is that 1150 values held up pretty well when the 1200 replaced it.:thumb

That's partially because a lot of the "old guard" 11xx riders didn't want 1200's, partially because a lot of people who wanted GS's couldn't afford 1200's. Also, unlike Honda, Suzuki etc., most GS's go back to BMW dealers, so it is they who set the second hand value. And as there were plenty of peeps wanting them, they kept prices up.

I'd imagine that the same situation will remain with the revamp 12's for a year or two.

you wiil lose money, theres the flight over and the ferry back i guess i could throw in a tank full of petrol to soften the blow

I know, I know, but I'm a sucker for a sob story. Never you worry about the petrol, I'll take the hit on the transport.

Getting reports back from non BMW dealers that residuals on the GS1200 are already falling more in line with other makes - the result of the GS fashion beginning to cool a bit and sellers moving off onto other makes. Cant verify it personally, but it does make sense. Same thing has happened to Harleys for the same reason.

I think the reason residuals are low at the moment is the very good deals being offered on 07 GSs. The balance will be redressed next spring:thumb

I wouldn't worry about it. Sell your bike in summer privately and you'll do OK. Sell it in winter or to a dealer and you're screwed.
