useful photo software

Hi all
I wonder if somebody would be good enough to recommend some programs that are user friendly regards photo editing ie sharpening pics and colours ect.
any info would be great thank you very much Adam

Adobe Photoshop is the industry standard, it'll do more than you'll ever need and is fairly intuative to use. It is, however, not cheap to buy.

There is a trimmed down version, much cheaper, for home use called Photoshop Elements - still does more than most mere mortals need.

Of course, there are many different ways of obtaining the software.................

I've used the Windows version of "The Gimp" enough to realise how powerful it is, and how much I need to learn about photo editing

Seconded - I use Macromedia Fireworks, which isn't bad either, but Picassa's great for what you describe above.

Irfanview is a great freebie for general re-sizing etc. Can also use Photoshop plugins for getting fancy.
