Last year, when I had my GPS V, i saved the routes from a trip to Spain. I've just tried to load them into my Streetpilot IIIs city navigator software, the GPSV software was city select version 5, and it will not load it...any ideas?

Rob:

There is a bit of an inconsistency in the statement you make. You said: "...i saved the routes from a trip to Spain..." Do you mean you saved the tracks from a trip to Spain? The GPSR does not save routes, it saves tracks.

Routes are what you generate on the PC, using MapSource, and then load down to your GPSR so you can follow them. Tracks are the little "breadcrumb trails" that the GPSR records as you move along, they show where you have been.

It is possible to upload the tracks from the GPSR to the PC. You can then, if you want, view the tracks on the PC, and create [new] routes that will overlay the tracks. You can then download these routes to a GPSR and navigate over them.

Whether or not you can upload tracks from one model of GPSR, then download these same tracks to another model of GPSR, I don't know. But even if you could do it, it would probably not be what you want to do.

It's possible you meant to say "I saved the routes for a trip to Spain", and what you are trying to do now is open up routes that were created using one cartographic product (CS) and display them on top of another cartographic product (CN). If you try to do this, the MapSource program will usually tell you that it needs to recalculate the route. Just allow it to do so, check to see if the recalculated route is substantially the same as the original one, then re-save it (with a different name). Then you can download the newly saved route to your GPSR, which will be using (presumably) the same cartographic software as what you had on your PC when you recalculated the route.

Hope this clarifies things for you and helps you figure out your problem.

I'd guess that you have maps saved with the tracks - this will prevent you opening the City Select *.mps in file in City Navigator.

If you like send me the file(s), I'll remove the map selection, re-save and send them back. I also still have CN loaded from the SPIII I had in January so I'll be able to see if the tracks can be read in CS.

It was the track log I was interested in. I'm not sure whats happened but the program is now throwing up an error (see pic) but the track log does load, so it would appear that I'm now sorted. Thanks guys.
