Right now we're in Norway and will start heading south to the baltics, we've been using a Quest 2 and it's been quite good. Is the gps of any use in the eastern countries? I've read something about the CN 8.5 which will include some of the eastern countries, and as I haven't registered my quest yet I probably would be able to a free upgrade, does that make sense?

Any help appreciated :beerjug:

As it is at the moment all you'll have is the basemap for Poland etc.... Pan European has given the heads up on Garmin releasing proper software for Eastern Europe in the near future though.

Used the base map in Poland and Slovakia and to be honest it wasn't too bad. Use it in conjunction with the heading indicator and it'll be good, I didn't trust it once and spent 45 mins going around in circles, I learnt my lesson the hard way by missing out on a couple of beers. And tracking functions proved priceless when going out on day trips from a city centre base, but don't use it solely in these circumstances as one way streets come into play!!!

No. No free upgrade.

V8.5 East Europe cost extra money and is currently only available on SD cards. Does not work with Quest2.

Hopefully included in version 9 of City Navigator Europe NT?

I'm a GPS novice.

Hi, I bought a Quest 1 and got the City Navigator Europe Version 8 DVD
I was told I was entitled to the most current software available at the
time of Purchase, I had to fax the reciept to garmin to get the unlock
code and DVD, they were very helpful.

I thought the mapping was quite good in Czech Republic, but
was less effective in Slovenia, Hungary Bosnia and Slovakia. Down
near Split, (Croatia) I was informed I was off route continuously and was
very often 10 km off the coast (ie 10 km out to sea ?) :nenau

Otherwise the maps were brilliant in all the other countries we visited,
it was brilliant. :thumb

PS. Version 9, I was told would have 100% of roads in Ireland :clap
