Here and there, now and then.
Just recently over the last month or so, I've noticed my V85tt pinking, usually around 3000rpm and when in third gear, it also happens but not as much in other gears but still around 3k rpm. It only happens once the engine is very hot, and the weather quite warm as it was today and is very noticeable in town riding with stop start traffic. The bike is also bog standard.

The bike has now covered 3500miles and is normally run on E5 petrol, more often than not it's either the fancy BP stuff or Shell V Max. It had it's annual service two weeks ago at A+D, who were informed about the issue. They could not find a problem and had used the diagnostics on it. They took it for a short test ride and again nothing. I assume this was because the engine was relatively cold. They said the valve gaps were not checked due to the low mileage, and suggested I leave it until the next service is due at 6000 miles. They also stated that no Map updates were due for the bike.

Any ideas for a course of action? maybe set fire to the bike? :D

I understood the pinking issue had generally been fixed with a software update. I don’t know to what version but I suppose you could ask your dealer.

I don’t think you've done any mods, have you? If not then unless you want to start doing non standard mods like a V twin boost device (enriches mix at all rpm) then high octane fuel will help or just ride around the pinking.

No engine mods at all. According to the dealer they reckon the bike's not due any software updates. I've been trying to ride around it, but it's a pain in the arse. It's strange it's only happened in last few weeks. I won't try a boost device until after it's been back to the dealer. I don't want to give them the bike over the summer, so I'll persevere until the Autumn, then leave it with them to sort out.

Have a look at the plugs. Is it pinking on both cylinders? Is there an air leak on the intake side? JJH

This was my thought too. The fact its started recently and when hot, loose hose somewhere . Fuel choice should not be an issue with an air cooled motor running a 10.5 compression ratio. Plugs would be my first check.

Have spoken to A+D this morning and got it booked in for an investigation. I hope they can sort it that day, or lend me a bike to get home if they want me to leave it.
Thanks for all the comments, I suppose while it's under warranty I should give A+D a chance.

I dropped the bike off at A+D on Monday afternoon, they kindly loaned me a Himalayan 450 to get home on. It's a nice bike, cruise speed on the motorway was about 70mph, but there was a noticeable whining noise from I assume the tyres, it disappeared if speed dropped down to about 60mph. I was surprised by the top end power, it picked its heels when the throttle was wound on, easily achieving 85mph. It felt bulkier than the original 411, and I didn't think it was as comfy as the 411. Overall I liked it, but doubt I would buy one. If someone was downsizing and wanted an adventure type bike it would be worth considering.
I picked the bike up this afternoon, the investigation into the pinking revealed yet again no faults on the PADS diagnostic, but some valve clearances were out and readjusted. The bike ran well on the run home, lots of standing and slow moving traffic, but it was raining, the pinking did not occur, so fingers crossed.
