As I am now on my third Zumo and they have replaced it with a new 2008 version I still have only v9 mapping on mapsource. I have tried to download version 2008 to my computer with no joy, questions?

1. Do I really need 2008 mapsource?

2. Am I perfectly ok doing as I am, I presume they have no compatibility issues, have they?

3. If I do need the new version, will I have to pay for it?

Thanks as always in advance,

Impretty sure that everything upto city navigator 9 only works on alder units. All new garmin map products carry the year prefix. Appparently its got something to do with the way the files are compressed, looking on the garmin website just the old v9 isnt compatible with the 'newer' units, only the old uns like the quest etc.

If you are trying to download a copy abviously this is illegal but if thats your cake then furry muff, if you look hard enough on the newsgroups you would probably find a useable copy and a workable keygen.

Of course i would never do this or endorse it officer...

If its a Zumo 550, with the 2008 maps for the whole of Europe preloaded then you will not need to load any of the v9 maps on your PC via Mapsource (a backward step). But you might get some problems if you plot a route on your PC using the v9 maps and then upload the route to the Zumo - when the Zumo imports the route it might make some changes to your original.

If the Zumo was a warranty replacement, ask Garmin for the 2008 mapping DVD and, most important, the unlock codes.

If it isn't a warranty replacement, and you want to upgrade the maps on your PC you may have to shell out some money to buy the unlock codes. Talk to Garmin as it sounds like you've had problems if you're on your 3rd Zumo.

BTW, Mapsource is the PC program that you use to plot routes etc. You can download it free on the Garmin site. It is useless though without the maps, which are a separate licenced (chargeable) item :rob

(edit: thinking a bit more about this, the maps are licenced to a specific serial numbered GPS, so even if you wanted to, the v9 maps might not load if they were supplied with a different unit. Make a backup of your Zumo software and its maps onto your PC just in case it goes pear-shaped, and you need to reload everything)
