OK guys, need some advice.

I'm using quite a lot more oil than normal and have been told by mates who've been following me I'm giving off smoke when pulling away and when opening throttle hard. (This is different to the normal situation where oil sometimes gets into left cylinder if bikes on side stand).

My suspicion is valve guides rather than rings, as I figure rings would be smoking all the time.:spl1f: .

It's a year 2000 1150GS, non ABS, 59,500 miles.

Planning on doing the job myself so any advice, tips, alternate diagnosis very welcome.

Cheers Jim

knackered valve guides/seals will smoke on overrun when you shut throttle.

white smoke during acceleration is sealing problem with bore/rings :(

if it's black smoke, it's way too rich.
