My son's needs to move from Limerick to the Isle of Wight in Feb.

Is there a Van hire company which would allow this one way, or can anyone offer advise on how to transport his gear.

He also needs to sell his Ford Mondeo diesel estate on Irish plates, what's the best place to advertise it for the Limerick area?

Tim

If he puts all his non breakable gear in secure boxes and on a pallet, it can be shipped over via truck. PM Aidan1150 who may be able to help with that:thumb

Good idea, yes I remember Aidan has connections with haulage companies:thumb

He's a sailing/windsurf instructor so boards and 2 piece masts etc. may be a bit difficult.

I'm not sure it'll fly as its across countries, but what about someone like Europcar? They do operate across Europe after all...

the other thought if that wont work, why not see if he can hire a van in the entry port town to drop off in the IoW? Come over, take hire van back to Ireland load up and head back over - long and drawn out, but might get around hire problems.

Hmmm, this is already begining to look like me going to Limerick in my van etc etc. Kids ay:blast

I know exactly what you mean Tim :comfort:comfort

BUT remember this>>
Your kids get to pick your home when you go GaGA :blast:blast

So it's always good to get brownie points at your/our age :augie:augie:augie

The voice of experience, I'll bear that in mind for the future:thumb

What about hiring a boat & skipper? Limerick has a port: maybe someone does regular runs to Portsmouth and could call in at Cowes, Ryde etc.

How does that work out compared to van hire & 2 ferries

What's the car worth?
If not much, why not just keep it and re-register?

I'm sure the DVLA will give a quick response on what's involved in changing to GB plates.

Cost of shipping al the stuff + transport for your son plus the fact he will probably need a car anyway.. Why not just load the car to the gills and drive over?

He can also drive on the IRL plates for a while avoiding fines, tax etc.
And living in Limerick, he must have mastered a Pikey accent in case he's confronted by the authorities.:aidan

To be honest Padge, those were my first thoughts.
I'll get back to him and see he's not doing this.
The car was on GB plates which he changed to IRL so can't see why he doesn't want to change back:confused:
