Vancouver

my experience of prices in whistler last year makes the UK look cheap

Visit the Gastown area some lovely restaurants bars etc,Grouse mountain is worth a visit,Stanley Park also within walking or cycle hire distance of Canada Place.
Whistler is well worth a visit,as is Victoria on Vancouver Island (Vancouver Island is a holiday in its self)

I agree with him But get a car and get out of town to Banff, Jasper. The elk roam into the town of jasper at dusk, some good places to eat. also Vancouver Island is good. Butchart gardens is a must see http://www.butchartgardens.com/

Can you take time out to go by bike around BC?

pm me for a 4 day route I took - fantastic.

The book to get is "destinations Highways, British Columbia" - about 80 must do routes

Vancouver is good for 2-3 days max

Vancouver island is great for a few days - Tofino for whale watching

The west coast highway up to Lund us good - desolation sound was great for sea kayaking

BC out to hot springs is epic

bike or RV for the experience. Hotels and restaurants are pretty average, but the scenery is awesome (a word you will hear a lot!)

Hi guys,
Living four hours from Vancouver.... Has to be some of the best motorcycling roads anywhere in he world..... Just awesome scenery, little traffic out of towns..
Lots to do in downtown Vancouver, and much just outside.... One hour to skiing at grouse mountain, a little further to whistler.
Steveston, just south of the city to whale watch or go to the island... Van island has a huge national park (lots of bears) and pristine pacific coast beaches.. Some of the best spring salmon fishing anywhere, and out of season the trout are to die for... Also while on fishing... We hired a guide in chilliwhack to take us sturgeon fishing.... Best day ever, started slowly in the rain( it does rain on the lower mainland) but cought four of the most fantastic fish.. Smallest was 6'8" to 7'4"... And they don't land easily..
If you can get a motorcycle for a few days pm me, you won't be disappointed...
Jaser to banff is glorious, as are the kootenays, blue river, clearwater and anywhere heading north to alaska....the scale of bc Will blow your mind....
Come visit... You probably won't want to leave...

One extra bit...

Vancouver is very different whether in holiday season or outside.

In August it was warm, sunny, friendly and the livin was easy (tho as I said, only really good for 2 days).

In October the weather was turning and a walk from the centre to china town was less than pleasant. It goes thru an area where the dregs of life wash up - Vietnam vets and crack heads etc. If ever there was a warning about taking drugs this was it - middle aged skinny parkinsonian freeks with tote blown brains - like hte land of the living dead!

Hi bladerunner,
I assume you're referring to that bit of Hastings street.... No kidding, it's a little rough....and kind of suprising on a major route into downtown van...but I guess they have to go somewhere..kinda makes me feel bad for them, life ain't so easy for some..

I did a 4 week tour of the Canadian Rockies some 20 years ago now. Absobloodylutley beautiful.......but.........I never wanted to see another feckin' tree again for years!
