Vario vs Aluminum cases

Not much point in going for looks if it’s being attached to a 1250 !!! You can’t polish a 138mph turd :-))

Lol! At least the GS is somewhat industrial and purposeful compared to overpriced orange plastic shit that is built to an even lower standard than BMW. Lots of pretenders who think they need 160hp to compensate for lack of riding ability. :-D

That being said... FFS, these are Panniers. None of them are going to win a beauty contest?!

Totally agree . No orange in my garage :-)

Like I said I would have gone with the TT made BMW stuff due to the KEY but the TT EVO X look good to me too even on the RHS thanks to the exhaust cutout...;) Thanks for all your input guys !
I love my 138 mph turd...:thumb A Afreeka Tween or orange Pumpkin doesn't even more close to a GS in looks or performance...;)

I think I will go with the BMW Alu boxes after all despite the extra footpeg mounts that are different on GS vs GSA due to the SINGLE KEY and superior stock locks ! Probably go with silver though as the black ones got very hot inside on my last trip with outside temperatures ranging between 90 and 110 degrees...

I recon 15 minutes.

Bit longer than that from start to finish , and if you wish to keep taking them on and off , a pain in the arse . Always used on the bike fine as better than the Vario for space and for some looks. Varios great for someone who likes to use them when needed as not to spoil the lines of a naked bike. IMHO of course.
Im sure that from getting the bike to putting it back along with all the parts back on the shelf / shed / barn I would say 1/2 to 3/4 of an hour , oh and a few beers lol.

I’d go for alu next time over the Varios.
Varios are ok but heavy and not much room. Especially the top box.
Not having the frames is handy every day though

I really like the expandable Vario top box but I like the aluminum side cases better...More sturdy in case of mishap, top loading and bigger...But still undecided if going with the cheaper TT Evo X (cheaper because passenger peg-mounts don't need to be replaced) or going with original BMW luggage...Like the idea of having no extra key + BMW locks are better than any of the aftermarket ones with their flimsy keys...Or I could save a lot of dough and stay with the Varios...;)and complain about the smallish case on the exhaust side where the BMW alu case holds 37 the TT 40 compared to the 29 liters of the Vario... Left side 44,45 vs 39 liters. So the BMW systems gains 13 the Evo X 17 liters...quite a bit of added space !

I had SW Motech on my last bike so I stuck with what I know, I think the SW Motech racks are more appealing but as everyone says it's your money :)

Vario topbox is a brilliant design and piece of engineering. Albeit heavy. If you ride solo, you can get the BMW luggage rack to replace the pax seat and mount the topbox direct to where the passenger seat is for better/more inboard weight balance.

May well have a full set of unused GS1200 / 1250 Aluminium Luggage coming up for sale soon , includes all bits sides and top , frames , hangers etc.

I've had varios in all my GSs and I love them. I love the flexibility they offer with the size increase and they're really sturdy and relatively easy to fix if you need to.

Side loading could be a good or a bad thing depending on the size of the items you want to carry, for long trips having the inner bags just makes life easy.

Would agree with the rest that it's a very personal choice and could not go wrong either way.

The more space you have the more crap you will carry! I like the Vario panniers for ease of taking off. A cheap set of inner bags stops gear falling out when opening. The day to day kit goes in top box.
If buying alli boxes get BMW designed for the bike and a warranty. But as stated your money your choice.
