Hey Guys,

I have finally gotten round to updating my StreetPilot 111 to version 9.:clap
Got the disc okay eventually. :thumb2 Anyways, I have put disc in drawer. Pop up screen gives 2 options. Click here to update StreetPilot 26xx or Click here to transfer files to PC (or words to that effect):nenau

Does this mean I can only transfer files to PC and view Mapsourse. OR as I suspect,, Can I download to unit (111) after files are transferred to PC.??:type

Answers on a postcard.!

TIA.

Pat

well,IIRC
option 1 is to update the firmware on the 26**
option 2 is to update/installmapsource v9 on your PC
...not sure what you are trying to do/say here, as mapsource on pc allows you to download the bits of maps/routes etc that you want to onto the gps
maybe re read the manual??:augie
if not I'll be going now!

Thanks for the info. :beerjug:

I am (was) trying to update my St111 to version 9.:bounce1
I suspect because ST111 is discontinued now it doesn't mention on the pop up.:nenau

Thanks again.

Hi pat....sp3 I owned was a good bit of kit but became a bit of a "struggle" to use in conjunction with V8 when I updated from V4!, due to the large quantity of data that V9 contained...this meant that the 128mb of SP3 memory filled up with fewer tiles (i.e. smaller map area) than I really wanted! my solution was to buy 2610 whilst they were going cheap(ish):)
If you are installing V9 mapsource, once that is installed on PC, IIRC you should be able to upgrade the firmware of the GPS, IF any upgrades have been made I seem to recall sp3 dropped off the supported list??? However, lack of upgrades to firmware should not prevent you from installing V9 on your PC and using it to dump data off it into sp3....its just that you are coming up against limitations of the good ol' sp3!!
If you are touring yurrup then that is a problem, unless you take a laptop with you!:blast
if its just your part of the UK, sp3 will probably be ok...but maybe nows the time to start thinking about a new gpsr???:thumb2

Russ.

Again thanks for info on this.:beerjug: As you probably worked out I am a little bit of a newbie on this. I have had the St111 less than a year now. I have managed to get a 256 "Data Media" card from GPSW.com and put all of U.K and Ireland on that.:bounce1 I will aim to do the same with Version 9 too.:mmmm

Many thanks again.

Pat

no worries mate sp3 was a good bit of kit...if it was possible to buy bigger datacards for it (and a faster processor!), I would probably have stuck with it....but the garmin would have no product range for their marketing dept to complicate life with!:blast

FFS.
After installing the update on my computer and going thru the "wish to buy an unlock code" the F*&king thing tells me "Invalid amount" copy to clipboard and send e-mail to [email protected].

The system has my card number and amount ,,,and Maps still locked,,

WTF,,

Pat

Oh how I love computers......downloaded V9, entered codes and can read maps on computer. However, it does not let me unlock the maps when transferring to gps(2610). Any ideas? Please!!!!!

Yep...that is an error message that has been discussed on the board quite a bit in the last few months!!
From memory, I believe that if you now go through the unlock procedure on the garmin website, (i.e. go to garmin.com, click on unlock)quote your gps details and the serial number of the V9 that you have, IF Garmin have registered your purchase of the unlock code, you should then be able to obtain unlock....it worked for me, but if I was you i would search on the board for "unlock codes" or similar and read up as much as possible before going to garmin website...good luck, stay calm, you will get there!:thumb2
ps, once up and running, copy the unlock codes to aseparate file somewher on your pc for safe keeping!

Russ,

Again I thank you for your info on this.:bow

I did send that error message to Garmin and have had a reply.Apparently, their system was down or something failed to connect.
The female (Jen B) has given me instructions to get over this problem.
Will do it tomorrow as we are expecting visitors soon.

Thanks again.

Pat

Russ.

After following instruction from Tech Support I managed to unlock maps.:bounce1
From memory I think a coupla pages were missing from last nights attempt.:nenau

Maps installed and still got a little memory left over.Took 54 "tiles" and 194mb.
Must go out weekend and seee if I can get lost.:roll

Thanks again.

Pat

Glad you are all sorted out now!.....all that remains is to go ride and see how lost you can get!
