Versys 1000cc now confirmed

As they say, anything will sell if the price is right... doesn't mean it's good, or wanted :thumb

I'm struggling with the concept of someone splashing out 8 or 9 grand on something they didn't want.

Ah but some will think it's a bargain cause it used to be 12K, lot of bike for the money etc, .. Now't funnier than folk :thumb

Exactly... they'll still sell though, 'cos most riders simply don't care.

inverted snobberyl! trust me its a damn good engine i test rode a z1000sx, very gutsy and more than enough power to get a proper wiggle on, a proper hoot to be honest but the suspension and all round package wont match a GS.

I still dont understand why the Japanese manufacturers dont offer an SP version with Ohlins \ WP and Brembos.
Last month I rented a Jap only CB750 in Japan, it was a 2006 I think, what a P.O.S I would give up riding before I would have one of these.
Brakes and suspension was early 70's

Your just not getting this engine thing... it could be the best straight 4 ever made, lots of torque, more power than anything, all from the bottom right to the top and with perfect fuelling, But, the one thing that Kills it..... it's a straight four where as the 650's charm.. twin.

Wouldn't really care if it was a singe (not very possible:augie), twin (parallel, V or flat), triple or even a V4 come to that... but it's not, nuff said.

Looks like a good bike and being a straight four it offers an alternative to all the twin and the odd triple cylinder bikes on offer from Kawasakis' competitors. Most bikes are bought as toys anyway and the average buyer can't distinguise between cheap and high end suspension even when it bites them on the arse. It will be a good bike for the people getting too old and creaky for Jap sports bikes.

Ah, so what you are saying is that you have a blind prejudice against inline fours? Unwilling to recognise that a motorcycle with such an engine is worthy of the name?

I imagine some of your best friends ride inline fours, though

Haha :D I have had lots of them myself, from GS550's, GPZ9's Blackbirds etc total 58 bikes so far so tried nearly everything. I just find straight 4's (K100's inline excluded) very boring, they have about as much character as a dead frog. I've ridden the latest Fireblade's, ZX10R's (2 years old) and whilst they do what they say in the tin.. they lack a certain something. My hole argument about the Versys is simple, the 650 is a sucessful twin, but then they bring out a boring 4 cylinder, version. Whilst I agree that some people don't like twins etc, I find straight 4's soleless and bland!

Luckily we are all different, however I think K could have made the bike more appealing, maybe they could have got some of the GS12 crowd over to them? (and that has got to be they want) Now as I have a choice, I would be looking at the TDM1200 if I wanted to change :thumb2 :beerjug:

What says the people when they realise that Kawi have been very clever and put different cams in it. Pots 1 & 4 fire together as do pots 2 & 3. A cheap and very clever way of making a four feel like and behave like a twin. It will still rev like a four as its still got the short stroke but tuned to prioritise low to mid range torque. What a beast.

Shame it's still got a chain final drive.

Its a growing marketplace, more and more of us are going from sports to ROAD bikes, GS's included especially the sanitised 1200's.

Why not a 4 cylinder, it's the only one isn't it? Lets get it straight, this ain't going round the world, or anywhere near mud and grass, none will have the scorpions replaced with scorpions, they'll all end up on std road tyres.

Your all looking at it as a GS competitor, doubt they really think it will have much impact on GS sales. I reckon they've been looking much closer at things like Honda's CBF1000 and the Tiger1050 as it's main competitors.

Kwak finish will always be the worst issue.

I've Never found the finish on kwakers any worse than the others, zzr1400 ridden every day through the winter no matter what the conditions except deep snow, and washed once a fortnight doesnt look any worse than my 1150adv thats done the same and cleaned regularly.

THe new versys might not float everyones boat but as a kwak owner as well as a GS12 at least it will be reliable and relatively easy to fix, looking at my 1200GS faults and the standard they all do that sir (EWS, FPC, final drive gearbox oil seal etc etc) when I can say the ONLY issues I have had in 15 years riding kwaks is a gunged up clutch inhibit switch(cost nothing to fix split switch cleaned and reassembled) and a small oil leak from the gearchange seal £7.00) then after six months owning a GS I have had the EWS go and now the input shaft oil seal, granted the bike is six years old and only has 13,000 miles on it.
Love to ride bikes and love the GS but would like a bit of JAP reliability thrown into the mix after all they aint cheap...
Kawk did have a1000 twin but it was basically a rebadged V strom so time to do there own thing...who knows it may be great...well on road anyhow...

As a novice to bikes can anyone explain in simpleton terms why a twin is better than 4? other than twice as many bits required :nenau

I know I perhaps shouldn`t but I do....... I quite like it...........:hide and having ridden a ZZR1100 for 5 years with no problems I might, just might be more than a little interested..........:blast
