Visually very similar but useful power hike from 118bhp to 133 bhp and torque now 112Nm up from 102.

Its gotten taller though from when it first came out. I tested one and could just about live with the height. The later models just got fatter seats or a bit taller I think

I liked the motor and the gizmos for the model I tested were ahead of the game and value for money, but it was a 4 cylinder and just too lacking in engine braking for me. I liked the newer looks onwards though

I had a 2012 model, (I never thought it was ugly), great motor and a great bike too. Mind you, my Tracer 9 GT+ has a better engine.

Strange really......I just part exed my 23 KTM 1290 SAS for a new Versys 1000 SE. The KTM is meant to weigh 215 and the Kwak 245.....however moving them around in my garage and the Kwak is far easier and feels lighter??

Being an IL4 doesn't help either as it makes them more top heavy than the boxer twin, same thing with the Trumpet triples too. Add in a tall seat height and for pensioner stumpies like me it's a no go area.

It seems the SX1000 seat height is about 20 mil lower than the later Ninja model; having never sat on the later bike what i've said is only on the basis of something i read;; i do know the Versy was quite a bit taller than my SX so i could'nt flat foot it; and alread having a GS i did'nt need two tall bikes.

A proper comfortable touring bike for those that want to tour two up rather than go dick-swinging to their local bike meet on their M XR or Multi RS.
Plenty of grunt where you need it.

Good value too when the fully loaded version is about £8k cheaper than a similarly equipped GS etc.
