Slightly off topic ish

Ie been using my Beeline thing on the Rocket as not much room to mount stuff without it looking crap.

It’s been a bit of a revelation to be honest.

Press and hold google maps, make route, choose quick or fun and get going.

Recommended if you just want simple navigation instructions

I have started you a fresh thread.

We can debate how ‘on topic’ your news of joy was :beerjug:

Just used Beeline on Malta to navigate on a hired quad bike.2 minutes to mount on handle bars and off we went.

They are an underrated bit of kit, I use my Mk1 on the Brompton all the time and on the V7, also used it for a discreet little check nav device on my bimble last year. I need to think about upgrading to a Beeline 2 at some point. You do need the paid sub for voice prompts, but you can just buy it for a month if heading somewhere where you may need it.

I’ve not figured out if there’s a way to reroute if you encounter a closed road. I had to ride a fair distance before it stopped trying to reroute me onto the closed road.

And sometimes my Moto2 seems to lose an idea of which way I’m heading (the road suddenly rotates so it’s left-to-right on the display when I’m heading bottom to top). Solves itself eventually but an annoyance when glancing down to see where you are.

I have a 2.
I use it sometimes on the pushbike and then use it on the GS when about London, to avoid having to lug around the Garmin. I never really felt the necessity of audio prompts** – I never paid the sub, but yes could be activated only for short periods.

**to be fair I never used those with the Garmins either, and still don't.

I used the Beeline 2 to follow a very long (~250km) track last year, as an experiment, and works more than ok.
I just find the app could do with some more polish, to bring it on par with the actual device.

It’s just taken me here…….

What’s not to like.

Thanks Richard (y)

Just crack on bumbling, it will eventually reroute itself.

Happened a few times today.

I think it’s safer too, as I’m a a twat for too much heads down programming, looking for fuel etc etc etc on my XT.

With these its simplicity 👍🏽

I did bimble on - but it kept trying to get me back to the closed road via other roads or u-turns. I followed the diversion signs and it eventually routed past the closure.

Indeed.

I don’t know how it’s brain works, but after a couple of go’s at sending me back to my last waypoint, it realised I had set sail for the next.

I think the fewer way points the better.

This afternoon I just put a cafe in some 40 miles away, selected fun and never looked at a map once.

Lovely route.

All adds to the fun I guess.

If I ever got in the shit re fuel, I can always pull over and use google maps on phone

Do you have autoreroute turned on in settings in the app?

Yes - auto reroute is on.

I planned a route using the app from where I was to where I wanted to be and then started to follow it. It took me to a road closed by roadworks and when I tried to divert, it kept rerouting me back to the closed road. So I had to ignore it and follow the diversion signs until I was close enough to the end of the diversion to be sure that it wasn’t trying to send me back to the closed road.

You can see my diversion below (coming from the south), and you can see where I turned left due to Beeline trying to send me back to the closed road.

Indeed it does as JB says. I had a 1 and really didn’t think much of it, but the V2 has been amazing and @AndrewA, I’ve not had any issues with the re-routing capabilities. I don’t use the voice prompts, but the single ‘Ping’ at 100m’s and then 2 ‘Pings’ when you’re at the junction works really well. We were up in Moffat last week and the weather meant we sacked off the original route I’d planned and it took seconds to put a new route with waypoints into the BL and it then took us all the way back down to Langwathby near Penrith, by quiet roads without any issues at all. I’ve just bought a new bike and for the first time ever, I’m not bothering to wire in a mount for my Garmin XT

Coincidentally your route travels very near my house! Pop in for a cuppa next time!

I bought one in the autumn and have now used it, very happy with it.

Simple and clear and with the minimal detail no need to be searching the screen for information.

When I was looking at buying one, there is one issue that stopped me. If you import a route to the device from say MRA, no actual waypoints are passed over. So if you want to actually follow a route and visit specific waypoints (as you would on a treasure hunt) there is no indication when you get there or have passed.

I had several exchanges with the Beeline techies about this, because the blurb says it works. They eventually conceded it doesn't work.

That was a couple of years ago when the Beeline 2 came out, so maybe the software has been updated.

If you don't need to be informed of arrival at designated waypoints then the Beeline seems to be a good bit of kit.
