A good friend of mine gave me a call this morning. Said something went pop in his engine and then it rattled sounding a tappet. Met him this afternoon to confirm and he decided it can be nursed back home instead of doing the mechanic thing in the car park at his work. Opened the R/H valve cover in his garage and found this

After the last valve clearance check the nut wasn't tightened correctly on the inlet side. Not by me or my mate but the person will remain unknown and the piss taken out of him later by us. Lucky for him the nut did not go down to the valve gear and remained in the valve cover. The nick on the adjuster was sorted and the clearance set. All good now. First time I ever heard of this happening.

reminds me of the time i had a service from a very reputable BMW garage, went for a blast through the mountains and on a fast straight heard something fall off, then noticed the front left brake calliper dangling next to the wheel...fortunately could slow down enough before the next tight bend.....had to ride home with only the rear brake :aidan

Mate of mine took his K1200RS into a well known BMW dealer for service in central London. On the way home his rear wheel started to wobble violently, all of the wheel bolts were loose.
