Hi
Are the cams out of the heads and did he measure the shims ?
No idea.
I gave him the bike thinking the carb was the problem as it would only run on the choke. He flushed through the carb and then had to investigate further. He did the minimum possible to give me a prognosis as to keep my costs down.
He kept me informed at various steps and when he thought he knew what the problem was he said it was not worth going any further. At 50 quid an hour I had to agree.
I now have a starting point if I wish to have a go myself. I would never had thought it was the values, with my limited knowledge I was sure it was the carb and probably gummed up with old petrol.
The bike is now back with me in one piece.
E model only difference is the carb and exhuast,so S engine should do.![]()
Hi
Only running on choke sounds like a carb issue .
Blocked pilot jet or passage ways within the carb . A good clean and resetting should sort that.
Or borrow / buy a second hand carb of a runner .
Thinking about this a bit more, I do have a couple of items in my DRZ hamper that may be of use -
1. A complete DRZ engine in bits. It has a rather poorly piston in it but I can supply this with a brand new piston.
It comes in 3 boxes and I'm reliably told it's all there.
It certainly looks as if it is, even down to the wiring.
2. A complete built DRZ engine. I've never heard it running but again I'm reliably told it's all complete and ready to go.
Both of these items came to me via this site as part of a DRZ package.
I wasn't planning to sell either of them and I would kind of prefer to keep the ready to go engine but the one in bits is certainly surplus to requirements.
I've no idea on price but if they were of interest then I'm sure we could sort something out and I'm up near Norwich and suspect that post will be out of the question so they will need to be collected from here or meet up somewhere convenient.
I think I'd be taking this to someone who knows what they're talking about
Hi
Sorry but poorly seated valves normally mean very poor or no compression.
No compession no run !!!!!!!!!
If I was closer I would have a look at for you.
I am of the opinion either he (the mechanic ?) has not got a lot of mechanical knowledge or did not want to do the job.
How he explained it to me was the valves had sunk into the head stopping air getting into the mixture which is why it would run on the choke.
But to be honest he could have said the little green pixes that push the piston thing around had just developed ashma and need different expensive medicene, and I would be none the wiser![]()

oh dear - time to get a new mechanic - clearly an incompetent fool![]()

I take it from the replies that i have been fed a load of bollox![]()
