everyone the same?

I was very unimpressed with my 06 GSA when it was new, to the point where if the demo had been like that, I'd wouldn't have bought one.

I just tripped the 12,000 mile mark yesterday, and it has been improving every couple of thousand miles. At 10,000 miles they were barely noticable, and during a thrash around the Mournes yesterday, i was up at around 6000 rpm on several occasions with little in the way of discomfort. I'll fit the akropovic 2-1-2 system next week at the service and see how that goes!

It's not ideal from a new bike, though, and i sympathise with the first poster's predicament. I still wouldn't call it turbine smooth, and not as nice as my Falco through the revs, but it's certainly acceptable now, and i have no comfort issues.

Patrick.

Just turned 11K on my '07GSA yesterday. Right hand still gets vibey and the pins an needles effect still there.
Has smoothed out somewhat at RPM's below 4 grand but still noticeable and hand fatigue sets in.

Seems a common problem. Took my bike back to my dealer just over a month ago for them to try it. They said it shouldnt do that so my bike was left with them. Turns out BMW tech staff on annual leave at the same time and no help from factory until the end of August. So six weeks without my bike, possibly more while they try and find a solution. During this time the technician has tried a few other ADv's and said it appears to be normal, if it is why did he take it in in the first place?

The demo didnt do it, if it had of done I wouldnt've bought one. Got this bike in April, cylinder barrel changed overnight, then had to sit for 18 days waiting for its first service as not to exceed mileage, now 6 weeks without it. Out of 5 months of ownership I've only had it 3!! No courtesy vehicle either, not the dealers fault as the bike was left with family on a Sunday to run it in for me when they were open.

Reading other posts on here ref vibes, discs (front and rear), engine/gearbox seals, final drive seal all failing it seems that there is a big problem overall :(

My wife bought a new Guzzi 1200 Sport and thats been fine, wish I'd gone for a Norge now.

I thought mine was very vibey over 5000rpm but after getting the suspension setup for the road and getting the tyre pressures right (36, 42 for Tourances) and after 2000 miles I didn't notice it on a long run at all this morning.

Then again I thought my last bike was very vibey and I got used to that too....

Get your wheels balanced, I have done 21000 miles on my 1200gsa and have had vibe problems twice both times it was the balancing that was out by 10 - 20 grams

WHeels from another Adv were tried to eliminate possible tyre/wheel balance problems. Its the same point in every gear regardless of speed or surface, even when in neutral if you wound the throttle open slowly you could feel it start.

Indirectly heard from BMW dealer that apparently "They all do that, its a characteristic of the bike" is the reply Im going to get from customer services. Customer services arent giving me straight answers saying they are waiting to hear from people when in fact they already have the info coz the dealer told them!!

The technician rode it and said its vibrates which is why they took it in!! Seems like the big corporation pushes down the individual again.

I have a 06 1200GS and no really bad vibrations. However a friend of mine recently bought a 07 GSA (he had 1200GS before it) and he complained that the bike was both noisy and lots vibrations. I had a quick test ride on it and the bike did seem noisy but I didn't feel vibrations as much as he did.

Anyway he complained to BMW customer services and eventually they exchanged his bike for another brand new bike at no cost to him!

Ian, is there a chance you could get your friend to contact me to find out how he went about it. Im not getting anywhere with cust svcs and they dont return my calls or keep me updated. [email protected] o m. Thank you.

Still ongoing. Its a characterisitc of the bike apparently. Still waiting for some technical people to look at it, 8 weeks and still waiting.

Vibration issue now sorted. BMW chap came and rode bike, agreed something was amiss so reported to whoever needed to know. Got a phone call from dealer saying they needed my bike for (another) month so they could strip, measure and rebuild the engine.

Dug my heels in here and said not acceptable, having a new bikes engine apart twice in 6 months so they relented and last Saturday I collected a brand new 1200GSA. Different engine feel altogether. Vibes a small amount but at my chosen cruising speeds its fine so am happy now!!

Nice result in the end :thumb

Someone's going to end up with a second hand lemon though...............

Vibe's

Hello all,

Well, My '07 'GS has had a bad tingly vibe just about everywhere in the RPM range. It doesn't come throught the footpegs, nor do I feel it in the gastank. But, it buzzes my hands to sleep in a couple of minutes. The mirrors aren't too bad, but the GPS bounces around like crazy.
The dealer asked where I run it and told him at about 3500 RPM and he said it shouldn't be run below 400. So, been running it at about 4K. The only difference I noted was lower fuel mileage. No vibration anywhere on the bike but the bars.
Seems that most of the guys say it smoothes out at 5K miles. Guess I'll see when I get there in about 1000 miles.
Anyone have any thoughts on how to stop the bar vibes? Thought about a lead snake in the bars, but they don't go all the way through......
Thanks, Jeff:nenau

My old one will still be covered by warranty etc so if whoever gets it isnt happy they can go down the route I did. If the person who buys it doesnt cruise over 70 as a matter of course coz they obey speed restrictions they wont have a problem. Also if they do have a problem, my name and address is on the reg document so if they really want to they could contact me and I'll tell them the score. I just hope they give it a good test ride, different people expect different things from a vehicle.
