Vibration, poss rear wheel bearing..?

Hi
5 miles down the M1 today and the bike started vibrating, stopped at Waltham Abbey (M25) for a look and discovered play in the rear wheel, I could see the inner shaft moving in the housing at the back on the shaft drive unit.
Once I got back I checked again and it was still moving, but them checked again after a few hrs and it the slack had gone and no movement at all so this must be due to it cooling down.
I am correct in thinking that the bearings are on thier way out, or do they loosen up a bit when warm?

I've personally got no idea although there will be plenty along soon to offer up ideas, the only advice I would offer is have it checked professionally before you ride it again -

Yea, already made that conclusion, gonna get it picked by dealer ASAP.
