I'm a reformed and own an adventure 02. I have had problems with vibration at 5500 rpm and after various discussions with my dealer, I am slowly coming to the conclusion that this is either a problem with my bike or across the GS range. The vibration is very consistant and very annoying, not a danger to riding, but gives me pins and needles in hands and feet, so much so that I slow down for releif.Tut Tut Have any members come across similar problems and if so what is the cure. Or is it something I will have to live with.

I welcome any discussion.

First off, it's essential that your valve clearances are spot on, and the throttles are perfectly in balance. These are the major causes of vibration in my experience.

Totally agree. Learn how to set these at home & life becomes much more comfortable. They don't move very much after a while, but they can change enough to be a pain in an engine's early life (ie: while then engine is bedding in).

Valves and balancing

And you will find out exactly how to perform these tasks if you hit the 'links' tab above, and follow 'GS Wisdom and Servicing' Don't expect your dealer to languish the amount of time & precision needed to smooth things out, DiY !

It's a boxer - that's what they do - okay not as bad as the R80RT, but it's part of their "character" - vib free riding = Honda! Just come from a Bland European - NOW CONVERTED - HALLELUJAH !

My GSA is pretty vibey as well. It seems more noticable on the GSA than the standard 1150 because of the gearing...it's probably why most GSA riders are either belting along or riding slow.

Thats a Fast Pace??

Hi Woodspoiler,
I agree with everbody's observations/suggestions, the only thing that crossed my mind is that 5,500rpm seems like fairly high revs to maintain long enough to get pins and needles etc??
My '01 1150 has the o/drive 6th and 5,500 would equate to 110/115mph? in top. I find my engine pulls like a train from below 3K to 5K and tend to short-shift, only using the upper end of the revs when really pushing on very hard??
So really my question is do you really need to be holding these revs anyway? or is it that your used to other bikes which like more revs??

But on an Adventure with the short 6th gear, 5,500rpm is probably nearer 90-95mph-ish. Autobahn cruising speed?
